Role Summary
We’re seeking a Software Engineer to join our Scheduling and Practice Management team within the Patient Experience division. This Austin, TX–based hybrid role combines remote flexibility with on‑site collaboration. You’ll help build software solutions that streamline clinician workflows and elevate patient care. Reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager, you’ll play a key role in developing impactful healthcare technology.
Team Summary
We’re building the next generation of EMR scheduling and practice management solutions designed to streamline and improve the accuracy of processes for healthcare providers and their patients. As part of this team, you will write code that continuously enhances these experiences for millions of patients, making a meaningful difference in healthcare delivery.You will be part of a full-stack team with opportunities to contribute to both front-end and back-end workflows. The team follows industry best practices such as continuous delivery and iterative agile methodologies. We operate in t
wo-week sprints and rapidly roll out features to subsets of customers to gather feedback and refine solutions as they mature.
Essential Job Responsibilities
Write, debug, and deploy code to production; deliver timely fixes
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement features that improve clinician workflows.
Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code that supports both front-end and back-end development.
Troubleshoot and resolve software defects and performance issues.
Support continuous integration and deployment processes to ensure timely delivery of features.
Adhere to DoD (story definition of done) as part of the sprint, including unit tests, functional testing, code reviews, bug fixes, documentation, and coding best practices.
Additional Job Responsibilities
Experience creating test frameworks
Experience with Agile and Scrum methodologies
Experience with deployment (CI/CD) pipelines using Jenkins along with git, bitbucket, etc.
Full-Stack experience or interest
Expected Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
2+ years of professional experience in software engineering or related roles.
Front-End: experience with JavaScript, TypeScript and React frameworks (experience with advanced concepts like hooks, portals are a plus)
Back-End: experience with Java, C#/.NET, and GraphQL (experience with API-First design is a plus)
Familiarity with software development lifecycle and agile methodologies.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Effective communication skills for interacting with technical and non-technical stakeholders
Expected Compensation
$91,000 - $155,000The base salary range shown reflects the full range for this role from minimum to maximum. At athenahealth, base pay depends on multiple factors, including job-related experience, relevant knowledge and skills, how your qualifications compare to others in similar roles, and geographical market rates. Base pay is only one part of our competitive Total Rewards package - depending on role eligibility, we offer both short and long-term incentives by way of an annual discretionary bonus plan, variable compensation plan, and equity plans.
