Simpro

Software Engineer - Mobile

Auckland Office Full time

Job Context

The Software Engineer is an essential member of an Engineering Team focussing on the design, development, and delivery of high quality features within one of our SimproGroup products.

What You’ll Do

Mobile Development: Design, develop, test, and maintain features for the Simpro mobile platform (Ionic, Capacitor, Angular), adhering to established coding standards and best practices. You'll contribute to a fast-moving codebase that ships multiple times a week and is used by 100,000+ field technicians worldwide.

AI-Assisted Engineering: Use AI tools (Claude, Copilot) as a core part of your daily workflow to accelerate delivery and improve code quality. We expect all engineers — regardless of level — to embrace AI-first ways of working.

Code Quality: Actively participate in peer code reviews, providing constructive feedback to ensure code quality, performance, security and scalability across the mobile codebase.

Problem Solving: Investigate and resolve technical issues, defects, and performance bottlenecks across various system components, with support from senior engineers as you build confidence and capability.

Agile Collaboration: Work within a Fast Agile environment — a blend of sprints and Kanban — collaborating across a collective of engineers in Brisbane and Auckland. Participate in all ceremonies and contribute to continuous, customer-focused delivery.

Process Adherence: Create and maintain clear, concise technical documentation for new features and existing systems. Proactively suggest and implement improvements to engineering processes, tools, and technical debt management.

Mentorship: Begin to mentor and guide more junior engineers, assisting with technical onboarding and sharing knowledge to elevate the team's capabilities.

This job description is not an exhaustive list of duties and may be modified at the discretion of Simpro Group.

What You’ll Bring

Mobile development experience — hands-on experience with Angular or React in a mobile context is required. Exposure to Ionic or Capacitor is a strong advantage.

AI-curious mindset — you've started using AI tools like Claude or Copilot in your day-to-day workflow, or you're genuinely eager to. You see them as a way to learn faster and deliver more, not just a shortcut.

Problem solving skills — you approach technical challenges methodically and aren't afraid to dig in, ask good questions, and work through complexity.

Proactive team player — you actively listen, share opinions openly, and celebrate team successes. You take feedback well and contribute positively to team culture.

Excellent communication skills — able to articulate technical challenges clearly and collaborate effectively across a distributed team.

Familiarity with modern development tools and the ability to work independently and manage your time effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Customer curiosity — you care about who uses the product and why. We want engineers who think beyond the ticket and consider the real people their code affects.

3–5 years of software engineering experience, or a recent relevant technical qualification (e.g., Bootcamp, Degree) with demonstrable proficiency in one major programming language.

Cloud or SaaS experience is desirable but not essential.

A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field is valued but not required.
