Software Engineer in Test

Columbus, Ohio Full Time

Build the Path Forward

At Path Robotics, we’re building the future of embodied intelligence. Our AI-driven systems enable robots to adapt, learn, and perform in the real world closing the skilled labor gap and transforming industries. We go beyond traditional methods, combining perception, reasoning, and control to deliver field-ready AI that is risk-aware, reliable, and continuously improving through real-world use.

Big, hard problems are our everyday work, and our team of intelligent, humble, and driven people make the impossible possible together.

We are looking for a Software Engineer focused in Test to advance our testing ecosystem and ensure the reliability and safety of our autonomous robotic systems. This role is ideal for someone who loves automation, believes quality engineering is a first-class product discipline, and wants to see their work directly influence how robots perform in the real world.

What You’ll Do

  • Design, build, and evolve automated test frameworks and tooling that enable teams to validate software behavior, integrations, and system performance.
  • Develop fully-integrated hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and software-in-the-loop (SIL) testing capabilities that simulate complex field conditions and enable continuous validation.
  • Drive a solutions-oriented testing culture, helping engineers adopt best-in-class patterns for verification, observability, and quality practices.
  • Create test strategies and infrastructure for multi-disciplinary environments, partnering with teams across controls, perception, UI, and embedded software.
  • Own documentation, reporting, and traceability for test plans, coverage, automation, and system validation deliverables.
  • Continuously improve test automation, stability, and developer experience, contributing to CI/CD workflows, tooling enhancements, and operational excellence.

Who You Are

    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Robotics, or equivalent professional experience.
    • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, ideally focused on test automation, infrastructure, platform engineering, or quality systems.
    • Skilled in one or more of the following testing methodologies:
      • TDD, ATDD, or BDD
      • HIL/SIL testing
      • Systems simulation or virtual environments
    • Experience with CI/CD platforms and orchestration tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Travis CI, AWS CodeBuild or equivalent).
    • Familiarity with simulation, test automation, or modeling frameworks (e.g., LabVIEW, Simulink).
    • Exposure to static/dynamic analysis or code quality tools (e.g., SonarQube, Coveralls).
    • Experience with test frameworks such as Behave, Cucumber, Robot Framework, GTest, gMock, or equivalents.
    • Ability to diagnose system issues using tools like Wireshark or system logs.
    • Strong software fundamentals — code structure, API testing, integration patterns, version control, debugging, validation, and automation.
    • Experience building, deploying, and operating services on Linux.
    • Demonstrated ability to apply professional software practices including:
      • Code reviews
      • Continuous delivery pipelines
      • Test strategy development
      • Documentation and operational ownership
      • Monitoring and root-cause analysis
    • Motivated by working at the intersection of software and physical automation—excited to see your work influence how robots behave in real environments.
    • Passionate about quality, reliability engineering, and building systems that scale.

Why You’ll Love Working Here

  • Daily free lunch to keep you fueled and connected with the team
  • Flexible PTO so you can take the time you need, when you need it
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • 6 weeks fully paid parental leave, plus an additional 6–8 weeks for birthing parents (12–14 weeks total)
