Role and Responsibilities
Design, develop, test, and maintain backend services using Java 8 or higher and Spring Boot. Implement and consume RESTful APIs to support platform integrations. Work with SQL and NoSQL databases to support application functionality and performance. Deploy and operate applications in AWS cloud environments including EC2, ECS, and S3. Containerize and run services using Docker and Kubernetes. Follow Mastercard’s established enterprise architecture, security, and development standards. Participate in code reviews, defect fixes, and technical discussions with the team. Collaborate with product owners and senior engineers to understand and implement business requirements. Support production deployments and assist in resolving operational, availability, and performance issues. Contribute to documentation for implemented features and operational processes.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience. Minimum of 3 to 6 years of professional software development experience. Strong experience with Java, object‑oriented programming concepts, J2EE, Spring Boot, and Hibernate. Experience building and maintaining enterprise backend applications. Hands‑on experience with RESTful web services. Experience with SQL databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, or SQL Server. Basic experience with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB. Experience using Docker and Kubernetes for application deployment. Practical experience with AWS cloud services including EC2, ECS, and S3. Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as Maven, Gradle, and Jenkins. Strong analytical, debugging, and problem‑solving skills. Good communication skills and ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
Additional or Preferred Qualifications
Exposure to SOAP‑based web services. Basic knowledge of messaging systems such as Kafka and RabbitMQ. Experience working in UNIX or Linux environments with shell scripting. Exposure to front‑end technologies such as HTML, JavaScript, React, or Angular. Familiarity with Agile development methodologies.
Role Clarification
This is a hands‑on individual contributor role focused on backend development and cloud‑native execution. The role works under the guidance of senior engineers and architects and does not include people management responsibilities or ownership of enterprise architecture, product strategy, or platform roadmaps.
