At Humana, a Fortune 100 healthcare technology leader, our Pharmacy Benefit Management (PBM) platform is a critical engine supporting millions of members, pharmacists, and clinical partners. We are looking for a Software Engineer to join our team and help shape the Future of PBM Technology.
As a Software Engineer 2, you will build a brand-new Pharmacy Eligibility application. This will involve modernizing legacy components, improved resiliency and performance, and enhanced backend workflows. The goal is to ensure our members get their claims adjudicated promptly.

We are looking for someone who enjoys collaborating, learning new technologies, coaching other engineers, and leading the development of reliable, enterprise-grade applications. The Software Engineer 2 responsibilities include the following:

  • Develop, and deliver high-quality software solutions that enhance healthcare and wellness experiences.
  • Develop to optimize scalability, reliability, stability and maintainability.
  • Participate across the full development lifecycle, including coding, testing, debugging, optimizing, and deploying production-ready systems.
  • Improve engineering quality through testing strategies, tooling, automation, and adherence to compliance standards.
  • Investigate and resolve complex technical issues, identifying root-cause and implementing long-term solutions.
  • Collaborate with agile teams, partnering with product, architecture, and quality assurance to create solutions aligned with business and consumer needs.
  • Contribute to an engineering culture that values innovation, continuous learning, and continuous improvement of the consumer journey.
  • Be a technical authority, driving architectural direction, elevating engineering quality, and delivering scalable applications that support healthcare outcomes.

This role will get some direction from a Senior Software Engineer. It is well-suited for individuals looking for opportunities in the latest technology, including the use of AI tools like Claude code or GitHub Copilot.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in systems analysis or application programming development
  • Experience in PySpark, Databricks and Cloud engineering
  • Experience deploying and maintaining Cloud-based applications using Azure App Service or Azure Kubernetes Service
  • Experience with relational databases at scale
  • Knowledge of server-side languages .Net, .Net Core or .Net Framework 7.0 and higher
  • Experience with event-driven or message-driven systems
  • Experience with CI/CD software development methodology

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree
  • PBM experience
  • Experience using GCP or Azure
  • Experience with PostgreSQL or MS-SQL
  • Experience with Kafka Streaming platform
  • Experience with a modern, client-side framework such as Angular, React or Vue

Additional Information:

We offer a remote work style however you must live close to one of our designated IT locations: Louisville, KY; Dallas, TX; Nashville, TN.

Work-At-Home Requirements:

To ensure Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees' ability to work, the self-provided internet service of Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees must meet the following criteria:

  • At minimum, a download speed of 25 Mbps and an upload speed of 10 Mbps is required; wireless, wired cable or DSL connection is suggested.
  • Satellite, cellular and microwave connection can be used only if approved by leadership.
  • Employees who live and work from Home in the state of California, Illinois, Montana, or South Dakota will be provided a bi-weekly payment for their internet expense.
  • Humana will provide Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees with telephone equipment appropriate to meet the business requirements for their position/job.
  • Work from a dedicated space lacking ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI / HIPAA information.

Interview Process

First interview: is an on-demand video using a platform called HireVue. If you are selected to move forward, you will receive a text and/or email from HireVue to complete this step at a time that is convenient for you.

Second interview: is a Live Video interview with system architects to introduce themselves and assess your technical skills.

Final interview: is a Live Video interview with the hiring manager to learn more about you, provide a department overview, and answer questions.

Travel: While this is a remote position, occasional travel to Humana's offices for training or meetings may be required.

Pay Range

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.


 

$80,900 - $110,300 per year


 

This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
