Software Engineer

The Software Engineer will operate as a key member of a cross‑functional product team within the Financial Protection and Retirement Services Technology organization. In our new Product Operating Model, teams own solutions end‑to‑end—from build through run. This role will contribute to the development, enhancement, and ongoing production support of eSuite Platform Modernization for Life and Disability products and deliver seamless customer experiences. The engineer will partner directly with senior developers, product owners, and business and technology stakeholders to implement technical solutions aligned to the business vision, strategic initiatives, and operational excellence goals. In addition to hands‑on development, the engineer will participate in L1 support rotations and help maintain the stability, reliability, and performance of the product in production.

You Will
Build (Development Responsibilities)
  • develop and maintain Frontend(React) and backend(.Net) APIs and services with consistent architecture and coding practices.
  • Collaborate with Product Owners, senior developers, and offshore team members to deliver features and enhancements on schedule.
  • Interpret user requirements and propose technical solutions that improve eSuite Platform Modernization for Life and Disability products.
  • Support unit, integration, and performance testing; troubleshoot defects and optimize code for performance and scalability.
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices, patterns, and standards.
  • Contribute to minimizing technical debt through refactoring, modernization, and alignment with architectural roadmaps.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and make recommendations for product and platform improvements.
Run (Operational Responsibilities & L1 Support)
  • Participate in L1 operational support, including first‑line triage of incidents, monitoring, and issue resolution within defined SLAs.
  • ensure product stability, timely problem resolution, and continuous improvement.
  • Proactively identify recurring issues and support root‑cause analysis and fixes.
  • Maintain runbooks, support documentation, and operational readiness artifacts.
  • Ensure robust monitoring, alerting, and logging practices are followed as part of the product’s run responsibilities.
Cross‑Functional & Product Responsibilities
  • Communicate progress, risks, and dependencies with product and technology stakeholders.
  • Remove technical and operational blockers to accelerate delivery.
  • Support team ceremonies within Scrum/SAFe frameworks.
  • Ensure compliance with security, privacy, regulatory, and corporate governance standards.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of product operations, developer productivity, and customer experience.

You Have

  • 4+ years of experience delivering resilient, highly performant, public-facing customer web experiences that have had demonstrative business impact
  • Highly proficient in Javascript/Typescript (Node/React/Next/NestJS/Jest)
  • Extensive experience in API development best practices (REST/GraphQL) and integration with third-party systems
  • Experience with Redis, micro-frontends and micro-services desirable
  • Mastery of web fundamentals, including vanilla Javascript, HTML, CSS, and web core vitals performance tuning
  • Experience developing complex applications in an Agile environment as part of a team of engineers, designers, product experts, marketers, and strategists
  • Experience with modern web application development, including build tools, testing, CI/CD and AWS
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Working knowledge of security best practices, e.g.: OWASP, dealing with PII data
  • Excitement, energy, and strong people skills including excellent written and verbal communication
  • BA/BS degree in computer science or relevant work experience

3+ days a week at Guardian HQ located in Holmdel, NJ

Salary Range:

$81,580.00 - $122,365.00

The salary range reflected above is a good faith estimate of base pay for the primary location of the position. The salary for this position ultimately will be determined based on the education, experience, knowledge, and abilities of the successful candidate. In addition to salary, this role may also be eligible for annual, sales, or other incentive compensation.
