Software Development Manager - Cardiac Services

Canada Remote Full time

Join Clario, part of Thermo Fisher Scientific, as a Software Development Manager and help shape the services and interfaces that power our next-generation clinical trial technologies. This leadership role directly influences the architecture, scalability, and reliability of Clario's R&D software solutions, with a strong focus on cloud-native engineering, high-volume APIs, and data processing capabilities supporting cardiac and respiratory products.

You'll lead an engineering team responsible for building and evolving shared services, reusable capabilities, and integration patterns used across more than 20 agile development squads, enabling consistency, accelerating delivery, and reducing duplicated effort. This is a player-coach role. You stay in the code, lead by example, and bring a scrappy execution mindset: bias to ship, comfort with ambiguity, and a drive to move fast without sacrificing quality. You will also champion the adoption of agentic AI tools across your team, not as a top-down mandate, but by demonstrating their value in your own day-to-day engineering work and building a culture that defaults to AI-augmented workflows.

If you thrive in regulated environments where you still get your hands dirty in the code and care deeply about shipping, not just planning, this is your opportunity to make an impact.

What We Offer

  • Competitive compensation

  • Health, dental, and vision coverage

  • Paid time off and company holidays

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Stay hands-on in the code: contribute through architecture spikes, code reviews, and targeted implementation work. This role expects and values a technically active manager who leads by doing, not just directing

  • Bring a scrappy, execution-first mindset: move fast, cut through ambiguity, ship iteratively, and help your team do the same

  • Build and evolve APIs supporting the full device lifecycle: provisioning, deprovisioning, clinical study configuration pushed down to devices, and offline-capable sync for disconnected field devices

  • Lead the shared services team and partner with product, architecture, QA, and 20+ engineering squads to drive adoption of common libraries, integration patterns, and platform standards

  • Own roadmap execution and team development: manage timelines, coach a senior-heavy team, and contribute to hiring

  • Design and evolve high-volume backend services and device-driven REST APIs; serve as the L4 escalation point for production incidents; and champion reliability practices including async patterns, observability, and performance optimization

  • Champion the adoption of agentic AI coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor) across your team by leading through personal example.

  • Demonstrate faster delivery through AI-augmented workflows and help engineers build the habit

What You’ll Need

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience

  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including technical leadership through mentoring, enablement, or cross-team collaboration

  • Strong experience designing and supporting backend services and RESTful APIs in production environments

  • Deep, hands-on proficiency with C# and .NET / ASP.NET Core. This is the primary engineering stack and non-negotiable; you are expected to remain technically active in it

  • Experience with Python services (development or support), with the ability to work across both ecosystems as needed

  • Experience working with AWS cloud services, including Lambda, API Gateway, RDS, DynamoDB, or comparable cloud platforms

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and cloud-hosted deployments

  • Working knowledge of API security and authentication (OAuth2, JWT, API keys) and general secure development practices

  • Ability to support production systems, including troubleshooting, incident response, and coordination of issue resolution

  • Proven ability to mentor engineers, communicate effectively, and influence technical decisions without direct authority

  • Comfortable with early morning availability from EST. This role works closely with teams across Europe and India, and regular overlap with those time zones is a real part of the job
