The Smith+Nephew's Sports Medicine group is building an advanced Cloud-based platform for computer-assisted surgical navigation. Join us on this journey to design and develop new innovative digital products that shape and redefine what is possible in Sports Medicine.
We are looking for a passionate and experienced SDET (Software Development Engineer in Test) to join our SW Test Team. The successful candidate will bring a demonstrated track record and experience delivering medical devices to the market and will work with globally distributed product development teams to deliver new product solutions. The candidate is expected to work on the test automation initiative for complex Cloud-based software systems within Sports Medicine. In this role, the focus will be developing and implementing an automation framework for UI, API, and End-to-end and regression testing for cloud and web-based software products utilizing frameworks and tools like Selenium, Playwright, BDD Cucumber, and Postman. You will collaborate closely with Sr SDET, Product Owners, Software developers, and DevOps engineers to optimize testing processes and ensure seamless integration of test suites into the DevOps pipeline.
Coordinate with both internal and external testing teams to ensure Testing activities meet product requirements and quality expectations.
Collaborate with Product Owners to build, refine, and maintain Agile product backlogs with a strong focus on SW testability.
Work closely with System test engineering to secure the necessary resources (equipment, personnel, lab space) required to meet Testing schedules.
Drive timely resolution of test-related issues by facilitating root-cause analysis and coordinating corrective actions across engineering, development, quality teams, Clinical, Marketing, Regulatory teams.
Maintain and create end-to-end traceability between requirements, test protocols, test executions, and results to support regulatory submissions and audit readiness.
Design, build, and maintain robust automation scripts for AWS Cloud-based applications.
Create a comprehensive test plan, functional cases, and strategy aligned with product requirements.
Champion a strong quality mindset and advocate quality-first practices across teams.
Integrate automation scripts into CI/CD pipelines to enable continuous testing.
Support performance and security testing initiatives as required.
Write clean, scalable, and reusable test code adhering to SOLID principles and coding best practices.
Perform design control functions to ensure compliance with FDA, ISO, and other industry standards applicable to medical device software.
Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or equivalent (required). MS or PhD in Software Engineering, or Computer Science or equivalent preferred
Licenses/ Certifications: Certification in Selenium, Playwright, or other automation tools (preferred).
Experience: Should have a minimum of min 3 to max 5+ years of experience in the following:
Programming Skills: Strong Object-oriented programming in Java, JavaScript or Kotlin or Python or C++
Automation Testing: Strong in Selenium or Playwright, REST Assured, Cucumber BDD, TestNG, Framework development and maintenance.
Cloud & CI/CD: AWS, Jenkins, GitLab
Experience with mocking hardware dependencies and isolating software components.
Python or Shell scripting for test execution, automation, and tooling.
Mobile Test Automation: Appium or Espresso or equivalent tools (Android).
Project & ALM Tools: JIRA, Nexus, Jama or any ALM platform.
Performance Testing: JMeter or similar tools
Security Testing: OWASP guidelines, Awareness or experience with GenAI-based testing tools (e.g., AI-driven test generation, defect prediction) is a plus.
Containerization: Docker, Kubernetes (basics).
