About the Team
Flowise is Workday’s newly acquired open source visual builder for AI agents and workflows. Our mission is to make it simple for anyone to build powerful AI driven solutions without needing deep expertise in machine learning or complex frameworks.About the Role
We are looking for a Backend Software Engineer who is passionate about designing robust, scalable, and high quality backend systems. You will work across Flowise’s server side components, APIs, data models, and runtime execution engine, contributing to core platform capabilities used by developers, partners, and customers.
In this role, you will:
Design and build backend services using TypeScript, Node.js, PostgreSQL, and modern API patterns to power Flowise’s runtime and platform features.
Improve performance, latency, security, and reliability across our open source, cloud, and enterprise editions.
Develop clean, maintainable data models and improve backend architecture to support scalable AI agent execution and workflow orchestration.
Collaborate with product managers, designers, and frontend engineers to translate requirements into backend solutions that feel simple on the surface but are powerful under the hood.
Drive engineering excellence by participating in design reviews, writing tests, improving observability, and influencing backend best practices.
Debug and solve complex problems in distributed, real time, and multi tenant execution environments.
(Optional but encouraged) Engage with our open source Flowise community through contributions, issue triage, and architectural discussions.
This role is ideal for engineers who thrive in fast moving environments, enjoy building foundational systems, and value craftsmanship in backend engineering.
About You
Basic Qualifications:
3+ years of professional software engineering experience.
2+ years of experience building backend services with JavaScript/TypeScript and Node.js.
Experience with PostgreSQL or other relational databases, including schema design and data modeling.
Other Qualifications:
You’ll be a strong fit if you have:
Backend Architecture Skills: Experience designing APIs, backend systems, authentication layers, storage models, and service abstractions.
Cloud & DevOps Awareness: Familiarity with cloud environments (AWS preferred), CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, observability, and containerized services (Docker a plus).
Problem Solving & Ownership: Ability to break down ambiguous problems, propose solutions, and execute with clarity and independence.
Collaboration & Communication: Experience working effectively in cross functional teams, providing clear updates, and resolving technical ambiguities.
Bonus: experience with LLM frameworks (LangChain, LangGraph, AgentSDK, etc.), monorepo environments, and plugin based architectures.

The annualized base salary ranges for the primary location and any additional locations are listed below. Workday pay ranges vary based on work location. As a part of the total compensation package, this role may be eligible for the Workday Bonus Plan or a role-specific commission/bonus, as well as annual refresh stock grants.
