Northrop Grumman’s Space Systems Sector is seeking a Software Developer - Level 5 to join our team in Redondo Beach, CA.

Furthermore, this position is contingent upon the candidate obtaining final clearances and program access(es) within a reasonable period of time as determined by the company. As the Software Developer, you will have experience in software engineering and development across the full software life cycle and experience working with DevSecOps processes and cloud platforms. You will design, develop, document, integrate, test, deploy, and maintain applications software for Ground Segment Functions for the iC2 system, supporting the program through maturity and milestones to achieve the mission. You will have strong verbal and written communication skills and will be expected to operate independently with little oversight in a dynamic environment. You are a highly self-motivated, reporting information to leads and the customer. The candidate is expected to handle diverse assignments with efficiency, finding unique solutions and working in a very collaborative and fast-paced environment that continues to grow.
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Develop software using modern web development frameworks/libraries, such as: Angular, React, Vue.js, or similar.
Implement applications software using server-side program languages in Python, C++, Node.js, and Go in a Linux/Unix environment.
Design, develop, and govern high‑performance services (REST, GraphQL, gRPC) and enterprise‑level asynchronous messaging (NATS, ActiveMQ) for satellite ground software solutions.
Utilize Atlassian tool suite, including Jira dashboards, Confluence knowledge bases, eazyBI reports, custom JQL queries.
Execute program tasking and software development using Agile methodologies, cloud platforms, SQL or NoSQL database systems, scalable database schemas and optimized queries.
Coordinate cross‑functional collaboration, enabling timely development and deployment of satellite ground software solutions.
Own development and execution of features for satellite ground systems domain, with familiarity in reading CAMEO/MBSE models.
Basic Qualifications:
12 years of software development experience with Bachelor's degree; 10 years of stated experience with Master's degree; 8 years of stated experience with PhD; an additional 4 years of stated experience may be considered in lieu of degree
Candidate must have the ability and willingness to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret clearance and SCI clearance within a reasonable period of time as determined by the company. Continued employment thereafter will be subject to the candidate’s maintenance of the level of clearance and program access required for the position in the future.
Proven technical expertise in modern web development frameworks and libraries such as Angular, React, or Vue.js, with experience driving project execution and code quality
Extensive experience developing applications on Linux/Unix operating systems, with an emphasis on automation and performance tuning
Demonstrated proficiency in one or more server-side programming languages, including Python, C++, Node.js, Go, or Java; with a focus on architecting robust, scalable backend solutions and leading technical reviews
Extensive experience in designing and developing RESTful APIs, GraphQL APIs, or gRPC services, ensuring reliable integration and performance in distributed systems
Familiarity with asynchronous messaging systems (e.g., NATS, ActiveMQ) and integrating them into high-performance applications
Solid background in working with SQL and NoSQL database systems, including designing and optimizing data models as part of overall system architecture
Advanced knowledge of Agile methodologies, and Atlassian tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket), with a proven ability to lead technical teams in iterative development cycles
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies like Docker and Kubernetes, as well as cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud), with a record of leading cloud migration or optimization initiatives
Proven ability to design scalable database schemas and write optimized queries as part of overall system architecture
Competence in interpreting CAMEO/MBSE models to inform technical decisions and streamline engineering processes
Previous experience leading technical execution for Command and Control software development in Satellite Ground Systems
Experience working within a DevOps pipeline
Active TS/SCI clearance

Primary Level Salary Range: $177,000.00 - $265,600.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
