This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

As part of a hardworking team of engineers, you will design and build the test assets for our Lunar Lander. The test assets will provide an environment to integrate the avionics for system development, verification, and validation. This will include developing, maintaining, and deploying software simulations and hardware emulators. The role will also include verifying, debugging, and fixing software used to take the next humans to the moon.

 

This particular role is to develop and maintain the codebases needed for our avionics development and testing environments. The role will also act as a key applications developer.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain advanced simulation and testing applications
  • Program applications in high-level programing languages (Python, Java, or similar)
  • Program applications in low level programming languages (C/C++, Rust, or similar) 
  • Use agentic programming tools to speed up development
  • Deploy testing software and avionics software across local prem and cloud
  • Support the development of flight avionics, operator consoles, and test equipment to verify the requirements and performance of flight software
  • Support problem investigation and resolution of test assets and avionics systems
  • Participate in the requirements, design, and architecture of testing systems
  • Establish and follow software development processes to ensure test equipment software is reliable, released and configuration managed

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent engineering degree
  • 3+ years of relevant experience
  • Proficiency in Infrastrucutre as Code environments (Ansible, Terraform, etc.)
  • Advanced proficiency with Linux and other Unix-style operating systems
  • Proficiency with CI/CD tools: Gitlab, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar
  • Proficiency with higher-level programming languages such as Python, Java, or C#
  • Proficiency in at least one lower-level programming language such as C/C++. Rust, or Ada
  • Experience in large, multi-domain codebases
  • Recent experimentation in Agentic software interfaces (MCP)

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience in a fast paced startup culture
  • Experience in full stack, multi-domain teams
  • Experience with IP networking
  • Experience with communications protocol: RS-232, UDP, CAN, or similar
  • Experience with distributed simulation implementation standards such as HLA or DIS
  • Experience with DO-178, NPR-7150, or similar guidelines


 

Compensation Range for:

WA applicants is $164,652.00 - $230,512.80

  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
