Position Summary

WashU Medicine's Department of Neurology is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Social Worker to join our dynamic team in the Movement Disorders Section. This newly established position aims to enhance our clinical and outreach mission as a Parkinson Foundation and Multiple System Atrophy (MSA) Center of Excellence while bridging these resources to the local community and coordinating a multidisciplinary clinical and research team in this effort. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in linking the Parkinson disease community with national and local patient advocacy resources.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

Provide Comprehensive Social Work Services

  • Coordinate a multidisciplinary care team evaluated through a peer-review process.
  • Promote patient access to mental health and wellness programs, support groups, exercise programs, and PD Health@Home.
  • Facilitate community-based educational events and support groups for people with Parkinson disease (PD), their care partners, and families.
  • Provide patients and families with up-to-date information about PD through various channels including the drafting and dissemination of newsletters, facilitating in-person education, and providing resource materials.
  • Demonstrate commitment to collaboration with the Parkinson Foundation through participation in programs, initiatives, advisory councils, task forces, and sponsored events, including travel to annual meetings.
  • Work in partnership with the care team and the Parkinson’s Foundation to address the needs and priorities of underserved communities.
  • Provide supportive therapy and resource referrals to patients with PD and MSA, and their family members during and outside of clinic visits.
  • Contribute to Center of Excellence reporting data and site visits, including quality metrics.
  • Serve on local and national committees to foster networking between the Center of Excellence and providers outside of the region.
  • Serve as liaison between national Parkinson Foundation, MSA offices, chapters, and local providers.

Assist in Research Coordination

  • In collaboration with the principal investigator, coordinate clinical trials and other research studies related to Parkinson disease and movement disorders at the center.
  • Assist with budget development and the writing of research grants and provide productivity measures for grant reporting.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of compliance documents for research related activity, including IRB compliance. 
  • Participate in PD and MSA fundraisers while supporting advocacy efforts.

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the state of Missouri and/or Illinois, depending on location.
  • Basic Life Support certification (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements.)

Salary Range

$27.00 - $41.87 / Hourly

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
