The Opportunity:

As a member of the WSU Athletic Department’s External Relations team, you will work as a project-based Social Media Specialist who develops social media content and communication strategies and implements new initiatives within the Athletics Department. You will be responsible for writing, editing, and coordinating the production of social media strategies and posts. Channels include, but are not limited to, Facebook, X, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, Google+, etc. Social media posts are used to advance the reputation of WSU Athletics.
 
You will help shape and maintain the social presences for WSU Athletics, athletes, and coaches, and will initially be providing primary social media support to the following accounts: Cougar Athletic Fund, Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL), and other assigned accounts. Reporting to the Associate AD of Brand, Promotion, and Marketing you will create social media content and strategies based on department needs and industry best practices, develop methods for evaluating effectiveness by way of data analytics and evaluation of success/engagement metrics for plan initiatives, and oversee the team(s) responsible of for carrying out central WSU Athletics social media communication.

Additional Information:

This is a full time (100% FTE), permanent position. This position is overtime eligible.


Monthly Salary: $4,216 to $5,666 | Range 47 | Successful candidates are typically hired at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with WAC 357-28.

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, journalism, humanities, public relations, OR related field AND one (1) year of writing/editing/public relations experience; OR equivalent education/experience.

  • Experience working in sports or intercollegiate athletics.

  • Strong working knowledge of social media trends, strategies, and techniques.

  • Experience with marketing and managing projects.

  • Experience directing the work of others.

  • Demonstrated ability using Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).

  • Demonstrated ability using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat, Premiere (a plus).

  • Excellent verbal, written, and visual communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully work independently and as part of a team.

  • Must be able and willing to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supervising staff and working with students.

  • Experience working in a higher education environment.
