JOB PURPOSE:

The Social Media Marketing Specialist & Webmaster is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the District of Columbia Small Business Development Center’s (DCSBDC) digital communications strategy. This role oversees all social media platforms, website management (DCSBDC.org), digital branding initiatives, online engagement, and marketing campaigns designed to increase program awareness, client participation, and stakeholder engagement. The position also supports marketing strategy, public relations efforts, and digital resource development to enhance DCSBDC’s visibility and impact.

NATURE AND SCOPE:

This position manages the DCSBDC’s digital presence through social media monitoring, content creation, platform engagement, website maintenance, and online marketing campaigns. The incumbent collaborates with leadership, counselors, clients, and external partners to promote services, events, training programs, and strategic initiatives. The role requires strategic planning, content development, analytics reporting, and execution of integrated marketing efforts aligned with Howard University and SBA guidelines.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Social Media Strategy & Management:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive social media content strategy across Facebook, Twitter/X, Instagram, and other relevant platforms.
  • Create and tailor content specific to each platform to maximize engagement and reach.
  • Manage daily posting schedules and ensure consistent, timely updates.
  • Monitor social media platforms for engagement, inquiries, and spam filtering.
  • Respond to and engage with followers, stakeholders, and community members.
  • Provide monthly social media analytics and performance reports.
  • Use social platforms and groups to increase awareness of DCSBDC programs and services.

Website Management & Digital Content

  • Maintain and update DCSBDC.org to ensure functionality, relevance, and accuracy.
  • Post updates, events, services, and announcements daily or as needed.
  • Contribute to new website content creation, including training videos and resource materials.
  • Maintain and update the client resource database.
  • Create and manage subsites for special initiatives (e.g., Business Development 2.0 Webinar Series).
  • Marketing & Communications
  • Design and produce marketing materials, including digital flyers and social media graphics.
  • Develop and promote webinar series and virtual events.

Pitch commentary articles and content to media outlets, including:

o Washington Informer

o Afro

o National Newspaper Publishers Association (NNPA)

Coordinate client news, events, and community involvement stories for publication.

Support public relations and event marketing initiatives.

Conduct weekly conference calls with leadership to assess marketing priorities.

  • VSBDR and Other Special Program Marketing Support
  • Create and implement VSBDR and BCCI social media campaigns.
  • Develop promotional graphics and materials.
  • Promote participation in the VSBDR and BCCI program.
  • Monitor sign-ups and engagement metrics.
  • Enhance program visibility to drive grant applications and resource utilization.
  • Client Engagement & Consulting

Work directly with clients (one-on-one or in group settings) to provide guidance in:

o Social Media Strategy & Execution

o Branding & Awareness

o Marketing Strategy Development

  • Refer clients to appropriate DCSBDC services.
  • Provide general analysis and social marketing integration consulting.

Administrative & Collaboration

  • Attend bi-weekly VSBDR regional meetings.
  • Coordinate internal and external digital communications.
  • Support overall marketing, communications, and outreach objectives of the DCSBDC.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

High School Diploma with a minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in social media marketing, website management, or digital communications required. Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, Information Technology, or related field preferred. Demonstrated experience managing multiple social media platforms and website content management systems. Proficiency in graphic design tools and digital analytics platforms. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
