Position Summary:
As part of the Perth Warehouse team; the Senior Operator is responsible to lead and organise the shift team to help deliver organisational and warehouse results in line with the site strategy and specific objectives for the shift/team including:
Safety, Quality, Delivery, Engagement, Attendance, Training and Development
Responsibilities:
- Assist in training operatives up to band 2 to help them acquire the skills necessary to achieve the warehouse operating plan
- Complete training and qualification to acquire all skills necessary to conduct the role
- Assist staffing and development including coaching, training and qualification of department teams to ensure the acquisition of all necessary skills to achieve the overall warehouse operational plan, troubleshoot deviations from process autonomously
- Role-model the Thermo Fisher 4I Values and Operations Competencies and use as a day-to-day guide in decision making on your shift team and in your operating areas.
- Utilise all available resources to achieve your operating shift goals.
- Take accountability for the results, and responsibility for the decisions made in your operating areas on your shift. Hence, you must ensure that any Operators are clear on role - their individual responsibilities, operating principles, and that the operating systems are always followed and maintained .
- Asist in establishing and then maintain the standards on your shift within the warehouse for safety, quality, appearance, attendance/cover, and other operating systems. Personally, role model execution of the systems and standards in your areas to ensure the operational plan is achieved.
- Deputise for the Warehouse Shift Leader in their absence
- Setting daily direction in the warehouse by effective use of tier meetings and handovers, while personally leading part of tier 1. This will include, but is not limited to:
- Lead troubleshooting of open barriers to the root-cause.
- Support your team in resolution of barriers as required or as requested by your manager.
- Review and learn from daily activities.
- Ensure effective communication and relay priorities within and between shifts.
- Most importantly, support your manager and your team as requested to develop into a strong, autonomous and engaged team:
- Create an environment that encourages openness and team growth.
- Complete work in line with standard works, set an example, provide meaningful, timely feedback about issues, review and learn to continuously improve your individual / team performance and business results.
- Learn by doing and teach by example and promote ‘Review and Learn’ approach by setting personal example.
Working Conditions:
- Works in a warehouse environment 50% of working hours and is required to work in varying temperatures. Up to 60% of time in cold room temperature down to 2oC.
- Lifting items up to but not limited to 7.5 kgs from ankle to hip height and from head height to hip height
- Walk and stand from 4 hours at a time, up to 12 hours a day, with frequent squatting, stooping, kneeling, bending and twisting at waist.
- Push or pull products on a picking cart, weight of up to 125kg to push and 125kg to pull.
- Push pallet trucks with weight up to 500kg
- Working outside when loading trucks

- The ideal candidate for this position will need to be self-starting, focused on developing their personal and technical skills.

- Personally understanding/troubleshooting issues, setting clear priorities
- At least 4 standard Grades (or equivalent) ideally Mathematics & IT
