General Summary:
The purpose of this position is to support sales and business needs while managing risks, market disruption, agent conduct, and management performance deficiencies by ensuring that Company’s distribution system members comply with the terms and conditions of their contractual agreements. This position is responsible for enforcing contract provisions, providing information as needed in field related legal or regulatory actions brought by or against the Company. Position has significant interaction with senior sales managers and serves as liaison between external (distribution) and internal parties (senior sales managers and functional areas), offering advice, education and enforcement capacity to resolve contract, company policy and field based performance issues. Acts as a mentor to coach and train department members, develops and drives department initiatives and serves as a back-up for director as needed.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Accountable for driving field performance management program assuring governance of process for Territory Managers (TM) and District Sales Managers (DMs) including development, revisions, distribution and associated instructional materials, establishing and communicating quarterly reporting deadlines and coordinate MAPS administration.
- Develops strong relationships with sales managers and internal business partners to educate, communicate and gain commitment on actions for resolving and carrying out enforcement of contracts, company policy and performance management expectations.
- Accountable for developing and maintaining effective area tracking and reporting systems for issues and projects such as outstanding investigations and probes as well as market conduct issues.
- Accountable for area administration of market conduct support and risk management programs and adjudication.
- Lead senior sales managers through field performance management process and assure performance standards, agreements and evaluations are reviewed and achieved or corrective actions taken. Assist in communicating disciplinary actions including termination.
- Investigate, research, coordinate and facilitate cross functional, cross enterprise communication and build agreement on taking actions to resolve agent conduct problems of varying complexities including contract violations up to and including commission forfeitures and contract termination, customer complaints, questionable business submissions, conflict and dispute resolution and market conduct issues or deviations from company policies and guidelines.
- Operating cross-functionally, research, coordinate and gather information to support legal actions brought by or against the company as it relates to our independent contractor distribution. Participate in case preparation and strategy development and provide testimony as needed
- Draft, coordinate and help negotiate national broker alliances and partnerships and administration, special contractual agreements, amendments and contract waivers as needed.
- As subject matter expert answer internal and external resource service requests, inquiries and general questions including the various states Departments of Insurance and various other governmental entities such as Employment Commissions.
- Perform other duties, projects and lead projects as assigned such as annual terminations for deficient performing independent contractor managers, product audits, market conduct working group, and questionable business working group.

- College degree or equivalent experience.
- In-depth knowledge of field hierarchy, and company guidelines and operations.
- Must have full understanding of Colonial Life sales contracts and compensation.
- Proven experience working with and strong knowledge of sales organization.
- General knowledge of legal process.
- Effective research skills.
- Strong PC skills.
- Ability to travel on a limited basis.

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.
$63,500.00-$120,000.00
Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not. All benefits are subject to the terms and conditions of individual Plans.
