A Polysomnographic Technician Apprentice develops competency in and performs basic sleep testing and associated interventions, under the direct supervision of a sleep technologist (RPSGT or RST or SDS). Provides education and support to patients and families regarding sleep testing and sleep disorders treatment.Pay Range: $24.47 - $36.70 USD Hourly
Employment Type: Full time, 72 hours every 2 weeks
Schedule: 7pm to 7:30am
Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent. Must maintain CPR or BLS certification.
Sleep Study Testing
Assisting in the setup and preparation of sleep study rooms, ensuring that all necessary equipment and supplies are available.
Learning and practicing the proper placement and attachment of electrodes and sensors on patients' bodies, including the scalp, face, chest, limbs, and other body parts.
Observing and recording patients' vital signs, such as heart rate, respiratory rate, and oxygen saturation levels during sleep studies.
Shadowing and assisting experienced sleep technicians in the monitoring and documentation of patient’s sleep patterns and behaviors throughout the night.
Learning to troubleshoot and maintain the proper functioning of polysomnography equipment during sleep studies.
Assisting patients with any discomfort or issues that may arise during the sleep study, under the guidance of experienced technicians.
Gaining proficiency in accurately and comprehensively documenting sleep study data, including patient information, test results, and relevant observations.
Adhering to safety protocols and infection control procedures to maintain a clean and safe environment for patients and staff.
Participating in ongoing training and education to stay updated on the latest techniques and advancements in sleep medicine.
Collaborating with other healthcare professionals, such as sleep physicians and respiratory therapists, to provide comprehensive patient care.
