Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) has an exciting opportunity for a Skill Enhancement Center (SEC) First Line Leader to join our Skills Enhancement team in Berkeley, MO.

In this position, you will lead a team of workplace coaches in the SEC who are responsible for the development of shop manufacturing skills that keep our production safe, efficient, and world-class.

The SEC replaced the Advanced Craftmanship Learning Center (ACLC) model with a broader mission: expanding one-on-one and shop-floor coaching across multiple skill disciplines (including, but not limited to: Structures, Mechanical, Electrical, and Quality). As the Leader of this team, you will empower Workplace Coaches to remove barriers, coach shop floor employees to established manufacturing standards, and accelerate their capabilities across the programs they are assigned. Your leadership will have a direct impact on product first time quality, operator confidence, and throughput.

In This Position, You Will Be Responsible For The Following:

  • Ownership: Operationalize SEC priorities – schedule coaching events, manage daily workloads, and ensure consistent application of rules of engagement and reporting requirements
  • Trust: Partner with Quality, Team Leads, FLLs, and various Production support functions to identify skill gaps, design interventions, and track measurable improvements
  • Innovation: Drive continuous improvement projects using hands-on coaching and shop-floor solutions that reduce rework and increase first-time quality
  • Safety: Ensure safety, FOD awareness, and compliance with site processes while fostering a learning-first culture
  • People Focus: Own people metrics: engagement, development plans, retention, and competency growth for direct reports
  • Quality: Technician skill gaps identified and closed through targeted one-on-one instruction and shop-floor coaching, utilizing data to drive the correct decisions
  • Coach performance and engagement to show measurable improvement via documented development plans and retention of high performers
  • Reporting and rules of engagement for Ship Side Coaches are implemented and adhered to across the site

Who You Are:

  • Proven frontline leader supervising technicians and/or coaches in aerospace, manufacturing, or maintenance operations
  • Coach-first mindset: skilled at developing talent, delivering hands-on training, and building trust with shop-floor teams
  • Strong collaborator with demonstrated ability to partner with Operations, Quality, Team Leads and Production Support Teams, to resolve real-world production problems
  • Metrics-driven and practical problem solver who balances safety and quality first
  • Familiarity with Structures, Mechanical, Electrical, and/or Quality processes is highly desired. Relevant technical certifications a plus
  • Demonstrated adaptability when faced with new challenges
  • Ability to motivate, inspire, and forge connections when under pressure
  • Passion for celebrating successes and ability to effect "small wins" for the team

Other Position Responsibilities may include:

  • Manages employees performing advanced technical knowledge and leadership to manufacturing projects to resolve production concerns
  • Develops and executes project and process plans, implements policies and procedures and sets operational goals
  • Acquires resources for projects and processes, provides technical management of suppliers and leads process improvements
  • Develops and maintains relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners and direct reports
  • Provides oversight and approval of technical approaches, products and processes
  • Manages, develops and motivates employees

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • 3+ years of experience in an aerospace, fabrication, or manufacturing environment
  • 3+ years of experience leading teams in a formal and /or informal leadership role
  • 1+ years of experience with continuous process improvement initiatives
  • 1+ years of experience with developing and documenting processes
  • Experience working in a Collective Bargaining Unit environment
  • Willing to work variable shifts based on program priorities
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint)

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 3+ years of experience collecting, organizing, synthesizing and analyzing data, then summarizing findings; developing conclusions and recommendations from appropriate data sources

Summary pay range: $111,350 – $150,650
