We are looking for a Site Reliability Engineer IV to join a team that is responsible for the building, managing, and maintaining the Verisign private cloud platform on which our mission-critical services depend. We prize operations professionals who are equipped with great technical skills, experiences, and a self-starting attitude.  We seek individuals with a strong sense of responsibility; individuals who are curious, demonstrate initiative, and love solving problems.

We are looking for an experienced engineer with open-source virtualization platforms, such as OpenStack, Kubernetes and KVM. Candidates should also have experience with Linux operating systems, development tools such as Jira and GitHub, and orchestration tools such as Jenkins, Ansible, Artifactory, and Terraform. Our platform is tightly integrated with the rest of the company’s infrastructure services and serves as the company’s private cloud computing and storage infrastructure. The team is responsible for the provisioning and administration of the platform, with a strong focus on operational disciplines and security practices.

 Responsibilities: 

  • Build, operate, and maintain our on-prem Virtualization platform
  • Implement automation of operation procedures in accordance with Verisign change policies as well as industry standard best-practices
  • Monitor and resolve alerts of the platform
  • Troubleshoot platform and user problems
  • Document problem-solving steps 
  • Ensure compliance with vulnerability management standards and information security standards, support regular patching of the platform elements
  • Participate in on-call rotation for tier 3 support

 Desired Skills, Experience, and Attributes:

 An ideal candidate will have a blend of technical skills, a desire to work as part of a team to grow themselves and those around them, and will have: 

  • Experience with OpenStack configuration and administration
  • Experience with Kubernetes administration and support
  • Solid experience working as Linux sysadmin in a large-scale environment
  • Solid experience using shell scripting, Python, Ansible
  • Experience implementing automation pipelines using Jenkins
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code with tooling such as Terraform
  • Experience maintaining highly available services 
  • Experience managing server hardware, firmware, out-of-band, and BIOS configurations
  • Solid understanding of network protocols and security best practice
  • Fluency with development tools such as Github, Jira
  • Written and verbal communication skills – ability to clearly and succinctly describe complex issues, gather requirements, and produce technical documentation

 Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related technical field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 8+ years of relevant industry experience
  • Prior experience developing or operating OpenStack platform in a production environment
  • Effective collaborator, able to work with teams of people toward company goals
  • Self-motivated and driven to produce high quality product.
  • Highly adaptable, able to juggle multiple priorities
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Self-motivated in learning and development of skills

This position is based in our Reston, VA office and offers a hybrid work environment

The pay range is $135,800 - $183,800. 

The anticipated annual base salary range for this position is noted above, however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience. Verisign offers a discretionary bonus which is based on individual and company performance, and certain roles may be eligible for discretionary stock awards.
