ERM is seeking a hands-on Environmental Fieldwork Manager / Junior Project Manager to join our growing Liability Portfolio Management & Remediation (LPMR) team, to be based in our Cape Town office.
In this role, you will conduct and manage fieldwork on site investigation, remediation and environmental projects for clients locally, nationally and internationally when necessary. You will also assist in the management of projects as part of this role.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Act as fieldworker/ fieldwork manager whilst on site and oversee other fieldwork technicians to ensure the works are undertaken as scoped and safely.
Oversee subcontractors undertaking intrusive investigation works such as drilling, trial pitting and sub-surface clearance activities.
Conduct fieldwork, including soil, sediment, groundwater, and surface water sampling and monitoring.
Act as fieldwork manager for remediation systems.
Perform assigned office duties, such as report writing, data entry, borehole logs, statistical analysis, data modelling, graphical presentation of data and field program cost estimating.
Ensure safety of oneself and one's team members during project operations.
Assist in the management of projects.
Coordinate and communicate with client representatives, subcontractors, and ERM employees.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelors and/or Masters Degree in hydrogeology, geology or a related discipline with a strong ground/groundwater contamination assessment and remediation focus.
Experience in hydrogeology, and especially groundwater and contaminant transport modelling, would be an advantage, coupled with a strong desire to expand this area of expertise.
Hands-on field experience, ideally as a consultant, including experience with drilling, trial pitting, soil/groundwater/surface water sampling techniques and field procedures.
Knowledge/experience of remediation systems and techniques would be an advantage.
Knowledge/experience of project management.
Knowledge/experience of primarily South African legislation, guidance and procedures with respect to the management of contaminated land would be an advantage.
Ability to independently complete field assignments and summarize data for investigation reports.
Willingness/interest in field assignments and traveling to project sites.
Computer literacy, including proficient MS Office skills.
Strong commitment to safety, including following established Health and Safety protocols.
Strong initiative (self-starter), problem-solving and communication skills, and attention to detail and QA/QC.
Valid driver’s license and a good driving record is essential.
