Site Electrical Lead

Position Summary

The Site Electrical Lead serves as the technical SME for all site electrical systems, managing their lifecycle to provide reliable and cost-effective infrastructure. This role supports capital projects, maintenance, and reliability programs, reports to the Engineering Systems & Continuous Improvement Leader, and collaborates with Engineering Teams to maintain compliance.

Main Areas of Responsibility:

In brief the role involves but is not limited to:

  • Managing the lifecycle from concept to obsolescence and replacement of site electrical systems. This will extend from MV down to MCC level in the various buildings.
  • Provide SME direction to Maintenance Teams in the operation and maintenance of the site MV network including the substation buildings. The responsibility for budgets continues to remain with the ETL’s per areas as they are the budget owners, however, the site electrical leader will guide the teams on Electrical infrastructure spend for all areas including capital and maintenance funding for electrical infrastructure for site budgets.
  • Providing SME direction to area capital teams in the execution of capital projects with electrical requirements. Responsibility for decisions around system architecture and design rests with the Site Electrical Lead. Oversight and technical guidance of Electrical Infrastructure projects is the responsibility of the Site Electrical Lead.
  • Maintaining a formal documented reliability plan on EAMS for each of the electrical systems from MV level down to MCC level in each building. This is to include the current state of the system, the redundancy levels included in it, identification of critical spares and plans for upgrades as needed. Ancillary electrical systems such as generators and UPS systems are to be included in this plan. The day-to-day execution will continue to be the responsibility of the various area Maintenance Teams.
  • Ownership of the MV network including substations. Writing Switching Orders and coordination with Local ESB Engineers.
  • Ensure all electrical programs are recorded and scheduled on EAMS.
  • Working with Plant Engineers and Engineering team leaders review and generate site SOP’s and guidelines to support the reliability programs across the site, including lighting, emergency lighting, motor inspections, earthing, earth continuity as examples.
  • Develop and provide technical training for people supporting the electrical systems on site.
  • Ensuring that the site Arc-Flash and Discrimination studies are kept in a live state and available for review.
  • Ensuring that the site capital plan is maintained up to date with forecasted required electrical capital spend.
  • Ensuring as far as possible that site electrical systems are designed to a common, safe, and reliable standard.
  • Staying current with developments in regulations and technology related to electrical systems.
  • Design, review and oversight for all electrical maintenance management programs is the responsibility of the Site Electrical Leader. The site Electrical Leader will manage the Electrical Infrastructure audit programs and the associated performance management metrics in conjunction with the Engineering Team Leaders.
  • Keeping the Capital Project Lifecycle current with best practice and current regulatory requirements in the areas of Electrical Engineering
  • Directing Front End Studies (FES) in support of major Electrical Infrastructure upgrades.
  • Participate in Pfizer knowledge sharing forums e.g., PGE Nett Zero CIG and Electrical CIG.
  • Support Sustainability Goals – Nett Zero long term electrification of Site.
  • Consult with ESB Networks in discussions about future Maximum Input Capacity requirements for the site and any other related initiatives / upgrades by ESB Networks and other agencies affecting the Electrical Supply to the Site.
  • In a highly regulated industry, it is critical that systems, programs, designs are completed to an extremely high standard with full traceability and supporting documentation.
  • Representing the site as Electrical SME in audit situations, which could be internal, HSA, corporate, Insurance etc.

Knowledge and Experience

The ideal candidate should have:

  • Minimum of degree qualification in Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum of 20 years’ experience in Electrical Engineering, preferably in a design role.
  • Strong understanding of Electrical design concepts.
  • Exceptional knowledge of site electrical systems especially site MV Network.
  • Exceptional knowledge of regulatory requirements around electrical systems.
  • Experience of Capital Project execution and management.
