Job Description Summary:

The Program Assistant is responsible for providing essential administrative and management support for the Health Scholars Academy program operations.

Job Description:

Expectations/Responsibilities

  • Attending curriculum and planning sessions with the team. Participate in pre-experience e required process design sessions.
  • Facilitates with the pre-planning and prep work including but not limited to structure of day, planning, excursions etc.
  • Gather correct student and team attendance data for end of Academy reports and future grant reports.
  • Assures all paperwork is kept accurate and safe including transportation, attendance, class rosters, contact list for all staff, etc.
  • Facilitates and oversees ACT prep sessions. Works with teachers to make sure students are staying on target completion.
  • Leads the Scholar Success Plan efforts with the parent liaison and works with teachers to redirect students.
  • Ensure lab safety guidelines are adhered to in the classroom.
  • Maintain open communication and mentorship with students.
  • Works with parent liaison/translator to contact parents if needed.

Work Environment

  • In person position.
  • Monday - Friday 8:30AM to 3:30PM - Will include prior planning sessions

Required Qualifications

Education:

  • Undergraduate degree (or undergrad senior) in a STEM/health area.

This position requires enrollment in a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have advanced knowledge, analytical skills and professional competencies necessary to perform the duties of the position.  The level of degree is commonly recognized as the standard qualification for similar roles in the public and private sector, ensuring that the university remains competitive with industry aligned practices, enhances collaboration with external partners, and supports the delivery of services and programs that meet professional and market-driven expectations.

Work Experience:

  • 2 years of STEM/health work experience.
  • Experience working with rural or urban populations.  
  • Leadership experience.
  • Has worked with K-12 age students.

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

Graduate degree in STEM/health area.

Work Experience:

  • 5+ years of STEM/health work experience.
  • Previous teaching experience.
  • Experience with middle school age to college age pathway programs
  • Leadership role experience within the K-12 student age

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
