Job Summary:

Northeastern Illinois University’s Master of Science in Nursing, Entry to Practice program seeks an exceptional individual to provide the technical skills to support the use of immersive simulation for all users. The ideal candidate will have an aptitude for maintaining, calibrating and repairing simulation equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability and will have knowledge of computer hardware and software for simulation equipment.

The candidate will share the university’s commitment to educating a racially, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse student population and will collaborate with faculty and students to deliver high quality instruction and programs. This position will report directly to the Director of Simulation.

Job Description:

SIMULATION ACTIVITIES & EDUCATION

  • Partner with NEIU MSN-EP Simulation Center team and faculty to develop healthcare simulation experiences that utilize state of the art facility, equipment, and technology to achieve the educations goals and objectives of the MSN-EP program.

  • Assist the MSN-EP Simulation Center team in preparing and maintaining accreditation requirements.

  • Assist faculty, staff, and students with all simulation events.

  • Assist with scheduling simulation activities.

  • Contribute to the development of simulation scenarios for all simulated learning experiences.

  • Assist with technology and simulation best-practice training for faculty and staff including safe simulation practices.

  • Assist with the orientation of students, faculty, staff, and clients to the MSN-EP Simulation Center.

EQUIPMENT & TECHNOLOGY MANAGEMENT

  • Prepare and apply moulage to simulators.

  • Assist with inventory management, ordering and record keeping of equipment, supplies and assets.

  • Oversee equipment preparation, setup, and breakdown including setting up patient simulators, task trainers, hospital equipment. Assure all equipment is in good working order prior to the start of all learning sessions.

  • Assist with programming, managing equipment and manikins and delivering healthcare simulation scenarios.

  • Program simulator software changes and operates software during simulation activities.

  • Provide audio-visual support for simulation experiences.

  • Provide necessary assessment and maintenance of simulators and task trainers with regular cleaning and replacement of disposable parts including updates and emergency repairs.

  • Troubleshoot electrical or networking issues including auditing and testing all healthcare simulation equipment and systems according to current specification requirements.

  • Collaborate with university information technology services to maintain MSN-EP Simulation Center technology.

  • Provide specialized technical support/maintenance for computer-based multimedia systems and their components, including operations of server infrastructure, audio/visual equipment, monitors, and medical equipment.

  • Provide technical support and maintenance for healthcare simulation technologies including all hardware and software upgrades to ensure equipment and systems run efficiently and according to system specifications.

  • Perform emergency repairs of simulation equipment and systems.

  • Research, evaluate and recommend emerging technologies specific to simulation-based education equipment, task trainers, and simulators.

  • Performs a moderate amount of walking, transporting equipment, occasional heavy lifting of equipment (up to 75 pounds). Must be able to see, hear, walk, read, and perform manual tasks with minimal accommodations.

DATA & REPORTING

  • Assist with the management of records and data within the MSN-EP Simulation Center.

  • Contribute to the development of the MSN-EP Simulation Center policies, procedures, best practices, and process improvement.

Minimal Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s degree.

2. A total of one (1) year (12 months) in education, training and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position. (Note: Master’s Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.)

3. Based on position requirements, additional education, training, and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position, may be required.

Departmental Preferences:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology, physiology, pharmacology, and equipment.

  • Proficient with data collection, data management, and data reporting.

Hours: Hours may vary depending on departmental needs and may include days and evenings.

Location: El Centro Campus (3390 N Avondale Ave, Chicago, IL 60618)

Setting: In office, not eligible for remote work.

This position requires a background check.

Salary Range

$60,000
