Silver Bay Railroad Operations

Location: Silver Bay, MN

Cleveland Cliffs has immediate openings for Silver Bay Railroad Operations located at the Plant Facility in Silver Bay. The primary function of this position is to operate trains and maintain the track structure.  It requires self-direction and the willingness to work effectively as part of a team.  This position requires a person willing to work varied schedules and overtime as needed.  Position involves 12-hour shifts on a rotating basis and working unsupervised and outdoors.

Summary of Responsibilities:

• Complete work assignments in the railroad with minimal supervision in the yard or on the tails line.
• Responsibilities may include assignments in train operations and track maintenance.
• Must be self-directed and able to learn and follow directions.
• Will be required to become a certified locomotive engineer.
• Other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Recent heavy equipment operating experience required.  
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Must be willing to accept assignments in all any area of mine railroad operations.
• Must be able to work outdoors, often working alone and unsupervised.
• Must be able to respond to unusual or emergency circumstances when off-shift, and work a reasonable amount of department overtime.
• Excellent safety record.
• Excellent attendance record.
• Must meet vision requirements (specific to determining colors).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Railroad operating (locomotive) operating experience is preferred.
• Completion of a certified railroad training program from a college is preferred.

The pay range for this role is $30.72/hour to $45.31/hour.
