Role Purpose
The SVC Lab Manager is accountable for the operational management of the Microsoft service lab in Mountain View, CA. This role ensures the lab is consistently ready, safe, compliant, and capable of supporting planned activities and stakeholder requests. The Lab Manager coordinates across internal teams and partners to maintain a high-quality, predictable lab experience and to prevent disruptions.
Key Responsibilities
Own daily lab operations including opening/closing readiness checks, operational routines, and maintaining a clean, safe, and functional environment.
Manage lab readiness for scheduled activities (equipment availability, space readiness, tooling/materials, checklists), ensuring activities start on time.
Maintain inventory and asset control (tools, equipment, consumables): tracking, ordering, restocking, lifecycle management, and audits as required.
Coordinate with Facilities/Workplace Services, Security, IT, and vendors for site access, maintenance, repairs, shipping/receiving, and related operational needs.
Triage operational issues and incidents, drive to resolution, and escalate appropriately with clear updates and documented actions.
Ensure compliance with site and lab safety requirements, including adherence to SOPs, EHS guidelines, and safe handling/storage practices.
Create, maintain, and improve lab documentation (SOPs, runbooks, checklists) and ensure knowledge is current and accessible.
Partner with stakeholders to understand demand, plan coverage, and manage scheduling/prioritization to meet service expectations.
Support continuous improvement initiatives to reduce recurring issues, improve readiness, and increase efficiency and reliability.
Provide regular operational reporting (readiness, incidents, inventory status, risks, and actions) as requested.
Qualifications / Experience
Experience managing lab, site operations, technical operations, or similar environment with multiple stakeholders and time-bound commitments.
Strong operational discipline: planning, prioritization, documentation, and structured execution.
Proven ability to coordinate vendors and cross-functional teams and to drive issues to closure.
Comfortable working with inventory/asset tools, basic reporting, and standard office productivity tools.
Strong communication skills; able to provide clear status, risks, and escalation context.
Working Conditions
Full-time, on-site presence in Mountain View, CA to support lab operations and stakeholder needs during local business hours. Occasional flexibility may be required to support critical events or operational issues.
