Ship’s Store Clerk

Amentum, a global leader in advanced engineering, technical, and professional services supporting the U.S. government, allied partners, and critical infrastructure sectors, is seeking a Ship’s Store Clerk to support a unique U.S. Navy program located on the remote island of Diego Garcia.

Job Responsibilities

The Ship’s Store Clerk provides retail support services in accordance with Navy Ship’s Store operational standards and customer service expectations. Responsibilities include assisting with daily sales operations, operating point‑of‑sale (POS) systems, stocking merchandise, and maintaining an organized and visually appealing retail environment.

The Ship’s Store Clerk supports inventory management by conducting stock counts, rotating merchandise, verifying product quantities, and assisting with receiving and labeling incoming goods. The clerk ensures accurate pricing, proper product placement, and timely replenishment of shelves to maintain retail readiness.

This role includes assisting customers, answering product questions, processing transactions, handling cash and receipts in accordance with established procedures, and maintaining a clean and orderly workspace. The Ship’s Store Clerk ensures compliance with all Navy, retail, and audit standards while supporting a mission‑driven retail environment on a remote installation.

Additional duties include supporting inventory audits, assisting with merchandise ordering processes, and participating in morale and welfare initiatives for personnel stationed on the island.

Minimum Requirements

  • 1–3 years of experience in retail operations, customer service, or inventory support
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Basic knowledge of retail stocking, cash handling, and POS systems
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records
  • Must be in possession of a valid Passport and be able to travel internationally.
  • Passport should be valid for a minimum of 1 plus years at the time of hiring.
  • Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain requirements for duration of deployment.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous work experience in an austere OCONUS environment with a multi-national workforce.
  • Excellent organizational, time management and customer service skills.
  • Valid country driver's license
  • Country visa (as required in line with the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide).
