Amentum, a global leader in advanced engineering, technical, and professional services supporting the U.S. government, allied partners, and critical infrastructure sectors, is seeking a Ship’s Store Accountant to support a unique U.S. Navy program located on the remote island of Diego Garcia.
Job Responsibilities
The Ship’s Store Accountant is responsible for performing accounting, financial tracking, and inventory management duties in support of Navy Ship’s Store retail and resale operations. Responsibilities include maintaining accurate financial records, monitoring cash handling procedures, reconciling sales transactions, and preparing required accounting reports in accordance with Navy policies and retail management standards.
The Ship’s Store Accountant manages inventory documentation, tracks merchandise receipts and expenditures, and ensures proper documentation for stock levels, shrinkage, and item movement. This role supports monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reviews; verifies pricing accuracy; and assists with audits, stock checks, and compliance inspections.
Additional duties include maintaining point‑of‑sale (POS) system data, supporting merchandise ordering processes, reviewing vendor invoices, and assisting store leadership with administrative and financial tasks. The Ship’s Store Accountant ensures all records are accurate, organized, and compliant with Navy and Amentum guidelines while providing dependable service in a mission‑driven, remote environment.
Minimum Requirements
- 1–3 years of experience in accounting, retail financial operations, or inventory management
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Basic understanding of bookkeeping principles, cash management, and retail accounting practices
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and/or point‑of‑sale systems
- Must be in possession of a valid Passport and be able to travel internationally.
- Passport should be valid for a minimum of 1 plus years at the time of hiring.
- Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain requirements for duration of deployment.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous work experience in an austere OCONUS environment with a multi-national workforce.
- Excellent organizational, time management and customer service skills.
- Valid country driver's license
- Country visa (as required in line with the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide).
