Shipping and Receiving Supervisor

Job Summary

The Shipping & Receiving Supervisor is responsible for managing all distribution functions at the plant, including inbound and outbound freight, inventory accuracy, and compliance with ISO 9001, safety protocols, and organizational policies. This role schedules labor to efficiently load/unload trailers, oversees logistics flow, and maintains accurate shipping and inventory records while ensuring health, safety, and environmental standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all shipping, receiving, distribution, and storage activities to ensure timely and accurate movement of products and supplies.
  • Maintain accurate shipping and receiving records; coordinate with Production Manager for timely backflushing.
  • Prepare and manage stock transfers, consolidate shipments, and generate Bills of Lading (BOL) and customs invoices.
  • Conduct inspections and quantity verification of incoming goods; direct Material Handlers for proper storage.
  • Coordinate physical inventory counts, investigate discrepancies, and adjust records for accuracy.
  • Ensure finished goods are scanned into Infoflo using RF scanners for real-time inventory visibility.
  • Manage time and attendance records for direct reports.
  • Prepare waybills and customs documentation for external carriers (UPS, Purolator).
  • Communicate freight delays or variances promptly to stakeholders.
  • Conduct monthly one-on-one meetings with team members for feedback and goal alignment.
  • Manage MRP Shipping Workbench for timely shipment of production orders.
  • Assign and monitor daily workloads for Material Handlers.
  • Participate in hiring, onboarding, and training of new employees.
  • Conduct performance reviews and develop growth plans for direct reports.
  • Maintain 5S standards in shipping and receiving areas.
  • Resolve inventory-related issues, including negative inventory and bin discrepancies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support logistics and operational goals.

Health, Safety, and Environmental Responsibilities

  • Promote and enforce Corporate Health, Safety, and Environmental Policies.
  • Ensure adherence to plant safety rules and 5S standards.
  • Provide orientation and training in HSE, quality, and ISO procedures.
  • Monitor compliance with PPE requirements and safe work practices.
  • Participate in safety meetings, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support hazard identification, risk assessments, and corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with HSEMS, HR policies, and legislative requirements.
  • Conduct and document accident/incident investigations as required.

Requirements

  • College/University education in Logistics or Supply Chain Management preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of management/supervisory experience.
  • Experience in plastic manufacturing preferred.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 requirements and production processes preferred.
  • Experience with packaging machinery and logistics in a manufacturing setting.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office and business communication skills.
  • Knowledge of ERP systems and shipping workbench tools.
  • Experience with Six Sigma, 5S, and lean manufacturing principles preferred.

Working Conditions

  • Exposure to moderate hazards (chemicals, moving machinery, noise, powered industrial vehicles).
  • Primarily indoors: office environment and production floor.
  • Occasional exposure to loud sounds and distracting noise levels.
  • Physical tasks: lifting up to 20 lbs, repetitive motion, posture changes, visual attentiveness.
  • PPE required: protective eyewear, hearing protection, safety shoes, reflective vest, respiratory protection (as needed).
  • May experience changing priorities, deadlines, and conflicting demands.
