Shift Team Lead – Wells Manufacturing

As QuidelOrtho continues to grow, we are seeking to appoint a Shift Team Lead to join our Well Manufacturing team in Pencoed on a fixed-term contract/secondment basis for 18 months. This role will work on a 7-day fortnight shift pattern.

About QuidelOrtho, Pencoed:

QuidelOrtho has been manufacturing products in South Wales for over 40 years. Our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, based in Pencoed, employs over 500 people who are involved in the manufacture and supply of clinical laboratory and immunohematology products to sites across the globe.

Our Pencoed team manufacture a large menu of immunohematology products used in transfusion medicine; in addition to a large menu of immunoassay products encompassing a range of disease categories.

On site we have a range of functions operating globally & locally. All our employees are working towards one common goal, to help save and improve lives through diagnostics.

Your new role:

As a Shift Team Lead at QuidelOrtho, you will organise and lead a shift responsible for the production of well components to meet business output needs. You will focus on communication with other work areas and managing resources to meet production demands whilst ensuring compliance with EHS, quality and business systems. You will be responsible for leading the manufacturing process and the key performance indicators for the team, whilst acting as the focal point for communication with other areas of the business.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Prioritise and schedule work to meet business needs.
  • Work on production line as necessary to cover breaks and absence within the team.
  • Able to support other groups on shift.
  • Takes lead out of hours for site emergencies liaising with external groups as required.
  • Run daily departmental meetings, presenting metrics and highlighting issues to support functions.
  • Able to monitor and analyse production data (e.g. OEE & FPA).
  • Attends cross-functional production meetings (e.g. OTIF communicating current status).
  • Keep accurate records and measures of production methods, test results and performance indices.
  • Operate in line with company quality standards such as ISO9001 and appropriate regulatory authorities such as US FDA or TUV.
  • Ensure team members operate in line with standards.
  • Acts as focal communication point with other work areas.
  • Provide the leadership and training required to achieve empowered and motivated individuals within the team.
  • Promote and champion effective co-operation within and between teams.
  • Carry out employee appraisals to agreed timetable and assist in the provision of development plans, selection and recruitment of employees.
  • Identification and implementation of initiatives resulting in productivity gains.
  • Lead decision maker out of core hours, escalating as appropriate.
  • Actively manages attendance and performance of direct reports.
  • Assists in preparation for audits by external bodies.
  • Able to present an overview of production processes to external visitors as & when required.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

  • Degree qualified within a Scientific, Engineering or Manufacturing related field or operational experience, leading production teams within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience of working within a highly regulated environment is desirable.
  • Familiarity within highly automated production process.
  • Demonstrable experience of high-volume flow production environments.
  • Fluent in the use of MS Office.
  • Knowledge of safe systems of work.
  • Demonstrable effective communication skills
  • Ability to manage and prioritise multiple tasks
  • Experience of managing and developing others.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrates a positive ‘can do’ attitude in a busy, multi-tasking working environment.
  • Shift: The ability to work a 7-day fortnight shift pattern.
