Job Summary
The HY-02 Hatchery Worker (Egg Setter) is responsible for performing tasks associated with egg handling, setting, and monitoring within the hatchery facility. Duties include transferring eggs from storage to setters, conducting scheduled checks of setters, hatchers, and hallways, and ensuring eggs are properly placed for incubation. This role requires attention to detail, accurate recordkeeping, and adherence to animal welfare, safety, and biosecurity standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Move eggs from egg storage room to setters in accordance with the daily set sheet.
Weigh sample eggs from designated flocks and record data accurately.
Correctly load eggs into prescribed setters and locations.
Place and store empty farm racks in designated areas.
Perform required temperature and condition inspections of setters, hatchers, and hallways.
Accurately maintain and submit all associated paperwork.
Report equipment issues, product concerns, power outages, or injuries to management immediately.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Education & Experience
High school diploma or GED preferred.
Basic math skills required.
Must pass a background check.
Completion of Animal Well-Being (AWB) training required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Dependable and punctual with consistent attendance.
Strong attention to detail and safety awareness.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision after training.
Effective teamwork and communication skills.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
Lift 25 lbs overhead repetitively.
Lift up to 40 lbs occasionally.
Push and pull farm racks weighing in excess of 800 lbs.
Perform repetitive squatting, bending, lifting, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
Work in wet, hot, and humid conditions for 8–10 hours per shift.

Eye protection: Required
Gloves: Required when handling chemicals or as designated
Any other PPE required by hatchery policy

Potential Hazards & Controls
Musculoskeletal Strain – Use proper lifting/turning techniques; seek assistance for heavy loads.
Slips, Trips, and Falls – Maintain clean, unobstructed walking and working areas; use three points of contact when climbing or descending.
Temperature Exposure – Wear appropriate clothing; drink water regularly when working in hot/humid areas.
Equipment Hazards – Stay alert for moving farm racks and trays; follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures.
Noise Exposure – Wear hearing protection in high-noise areas.
Chemical Irritation – Use appropriate PPE when handling cleaning or sanitizing agents.
Key Expectations
Handle eggs carefully and accurately according to procedures.
Maintain detailed and accurate records.
Keep work areas clean, safe, and biosecure.
Communicate equipment, product, or safety issues promptly to management.
Support hatchery operations with flexibility, reliability, and attention to detail.
