Job Description:

The SharePoint Administrator provides technical leadership and operational support for the organization’s Microsoft SharePoint Online environment. This role is responsible for ensuring platform performance, security, governance, and overall system health. The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with an initiative-taking approach to optimization, compliance, and user enablement.

Key Responsibilities

Platform Administration & Configuration

  • Work with site owners to manage collections, subsites, and hub sites.
  • Configure and maintain document libraries, lists, metadata, and content types.
  • Support and enhance collaboration capabilities, including workflows and automation.
  • Maintain search configuration, indexing, and content discoverability.
  • Support third-party integrations and API connectivity where applicable.

Security & Access Management

  • Manage user access, permission levels, and inheritance structures.
  • Implement and maintain role-based access controls (RBAC).
  • Monitor and audit activity logs to identify and address security risks.
  • Ensure adherence to governance policies and compliance standards.

Integration & Collaboration

  • Integrate SharePoint with Microsoft 365 applications.
  • Support collaboration across Microsoft Teams and Microsoft OneDrive.
  • Partner with business units to optimize collaboration workflows and document management processes.

Performance & Support

  • Diagnose and resolve user access, sync, and performance issues.
  • Troubleshoot page load delays, search functionality issues, and storage constraints.
  • Analyze logs and system reports to perform root-cause analysis.
  • Optimize storage utilization, indexing, and large list performance.

Governance, Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Develop and enforce SharePoint governance standards and best practices.
  • Create technical documentation, user guides, and training materials.
  • Provide guidance to departments on site architecture and content lifecycle management.
  • Automate administrative processes where possible.
  • Develop and deliver reports on usage, storage, and security metrics.
  • Support environment migrations (cloud-to-cloud and on-premises-to-cloud).

Education and preferred certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
    OR equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Associate’ degree with substantial enterprise IT experience may be considered.
  • Preferred certifications:
  • Microsoft certifications related to Microsoft SharePoint
  • Certifications in Microsoft 365 administration
  • Identity and access management certifications related to Microsoft Entra ID
  • Power Platform and/or security and compliance certifications
  • ITIL Foundation certification

Skills and Competencies

  • 2–3+ years of firsthand experience administering Microsoft SharePoint Online.
  • Experience managing site collections, permissions, governance frameworks, and document management solutions.
  • Knowledge of scripting languages (PowerShell, PnP PowerShell)
  • Experience integrating SharePoint with Microsoft Teams and Microsoft OneDrive.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively across teams while overseeing sensitive information with discretion.
  • Firsthand experience with SharePoint migrations.
  • Experience working within a broader Microsoft 365 environment.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot performance, search, and access issues.
  • Experience supporting hybrid identity environments leveraging Microsoft Entra ID.
  • Experience supporting virtual desktop environments, such as Citrix VDI or Azure Virtual Desktop and a working knowledge of cloud security, Microsoft server environments, virtual systems, and enterprise applications is considered as a plus.
