About the role

The Settlements team within Group Finance is responsible for the calculation, reconciliation and settlement of wholesale contracts for electricity, eco-markets, gas, oil and coal, the settlement of major financial transactions as well as the billing of largest Commercial & Industrial customers. The team is also responsible for the reconciliation and settlement of Group Treasury transactions. They work closely with the Wholesale Markets, Market Reconciliations team and Treasury to ensure the accuracy and timely settlement of wholesale market transactions, and the Treasury function to optimise the prudential requirements to operate in these markets.

The Settlements Analyst is accountable for the efficient execution of settlement-related responsibilities, while also promoting continuous improvement, regulatory compliance, and effective business support throughout AGL’s energy and finance operations. This position demands meticulous attention to detail, outstanding organizational skills, and a proactive mindset to consistently meet essential deadlines.

                       

What you’ll be doing:
 

  • Build and maintain proactive and effective working relationships with all relevant stakeholders to meet business requirements and ensure an uplift of team brand.
  • Providing specialist knowledge and advising other areas of the business on adhoc payment service requests and requirements
  • Actively contributes to process improvement to enhance operational efficiencies and identify potential value-added activities. This includes enhancing current technologies and new technologies such as AI to support business growth and development
  • Collaborating effectively with both internal and external audit teams to ensure the successful completion of annual audits and compliance reviews
  • Supporting the broader team to help support cross skilling or decision making with experience and knowledge
  • Proactively raise sustainable process improvements and ensure the broader team is fully trained and engaged.
  • Develop and refine both existing and prospective models for contract validation to ensure compliance with settlements reconciliation requirements.
  • Continue to build knowledge on key systems, maintaining accuracy of information and the flow of information to other relevant teams in a timely manner. Thus, reducing key person dependency, improving cash flow management, and risk mitigation
     

What you’ll bring:
 

  • Hold a relevant tertiary qualification in a business or analytical discipline required
  • Knowledge and relevant experience in the energy industry or banking
  • Strong knowledge of financial products including foreign exchange, derivatives, swaps, hedging, term deposits and other complex products
  • Strong working knowledge of banking processes, and an ability to learn and adapt quickly to manage varying systems concurrently
  • Experience managing multiple priorities and adhering to strict deadlines.
  • Interpersonal Communication: Ability to clearly communicate with internal and external stakeholders. Able to present effectively, with fluency, persuasiveness and confidence.
  • Ability to promptly escalate issues and provide sustainable solutions to reduce financial and operational risk.
  • Strong attention to detail with accuracy, while understanding broader system and process impacts.
  • AI, SQL, VBA and Microsoft office suite knowledge and capability.
