Senior/Principal Agentic AI Engineer (Clinical Data Systems)
This role resides in the Data Management team, a key function within Product Development Data Sciences (PDD). At Roche, we lead the industry in speed and efficiency across all data management responsibilities. Through innovative tools, automation, and cutting-edge technologies, we streamline clinical trial data collection and delivery.
As trusted partners in drug development, our team leverages deep expertise across therapeutic area data modalities to strategically guide clinical trial data processes. We balance high-quality data outputs with fit-for-purpose data collection methods, enabling faster trials, timely decision-making, and accelerated delivery of life-changing medicines to patients.
If you’re passionate about shaping the future of clinical trials, this is the moment to join. As a Senior/Principal Agentic AI Engineer within the Global Clinical Data Management organization, you will lead transformative initiatives that revolutionize clinical trial data processing. You will bridge cutting-edge AI technologies with pharmaceutical standards, creating systems that automate clinical data cleaning, validation, and analysis while ensuring regulatory compliance. Your contributions will impact patients globally by accelerating vital therapies.
Key Responsibilities
Agentic Architecture: Design agentic workflows using frameworks like LangGraph, CrewAI, or AutoGen to automate complex clinical data management tasks.
Multi-Agent Systems: Develop production-grade multi-agent systems where specialized agents (e.g., "Planner," "Validator," "Protocol Reviewer") collaborate through tool-calling and retrieval-augmented workflows, with human-in-the-loop validation to ensure traceable, compliant outcomes. Maintain high-quality, testable code and service documentation.
Advanced Prompt Engineering: Utilize systematic prompt engineering techniques (Chain-of-Thought, ReAct, Reflection) for high-fidelity outcomes in clinical contexts.
Integration & Scalability: Deploy AI solutions into Roche’s existing cloud environment (AWS) while ensuring scalability.
Governance & Safety: Partner with Data Integrity teams to uphold traceable, reproducible, and GxP-compliant AI systems.
Your qualifications combine technical expertise, industry knowledge, and strategic thinking:
Education & Experience: Bachelor’s or advanced degree (Master’s/PhD preferred) in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or related fields, with 6–8+ years of experience delivering impactful AI/ML solutions.
Technical Skillset: Proficient in Python (TensorFlow, PyTorch, NumPy) and skilled in AI orchestration frameworks (LangGraph, CrewAI, AutoGen). Familiarity with other programming languages such as C#, R, or JavaScript is a plus.
AI System Deployment: Experienced in deploying scalable AI systems to cloud environments (AWS) and integrating tools like vector databases, DevOps pipelines, and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
Governance & Compliance: Strong knowledge of validation practices, model reproducibility, and regulatory frameworks (GxP standards), with experience in clinical trial data workflows.
Domain Expertise: Familiarity with clinical trial lifecycles, data standards, and regulated industries such as healthcare, fintech, or aerospace.
Communication & Strategy: Strategic thinker with excellent problem-solving and communication skills, capable of engaging global stakeholders effectively.
Experience building production LLM systems using RAG pipelines, tool-calling agents, and human-in-the-loop workflows.
