Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced Corporate Underwriter to join our Commercial team. In this role, you will be responsible for assisting underwriting complex risks, maintaining profitability, and supporting strategic growth initiatives on property and/or auto. You will work closely with various internal stakeholders to deliver tailored solutions that meet business objectives.

Salary Range: $69,341 - $112,149/year *This represents the expected hiring range and may not represent the full pay range for the position. The salary offered may be higher than the posted range depending on several factors such as relevant skills, qualifications, and experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement corporate strategies and goals and provide recommendations for improvement
  • Ensure adherence to underwriting standards, reinsurance treaty restrictions, capacity limits, and Insurance Act regulations
  • Conduct underwriting audits and submit reports as per guidelines
  • Evaluate program opportunities, recommend action plans, and manage programs as directed
  • Stay updated on industry trends, market conditions and recommend product changes or risk appetite adjustments to remain competitive position
  • Maintain updated wordings, manuals, rates, and marketing materials on the commercial intranet
  • Collaborate with the Technical Committee to develop system improvements and underwriting guidelines
  • Assist in developing new products, including wordings, underwriting rules, and rates
  • Act as a technical resource for underwriting, actuary, claims, brokers, IT, and management
  • Works with commercial team on risks exceeding authority level
  • Manage training requirements for the commercial department and lead technical sessions

Qualifications:

  • University or College degree; CIP designation is required. CRM an asset
  • Minimum 8 years underwriting experience in commercial lines. Management experience as asset
  • In-depth technical knowledge of underwriting principles, practices, and pricing methodologies
  • Strong understanding of commercial rates and market dynamics
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship management skills
  • Effective IT skills to manage corporate systems: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and OPUS
  • Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and mentoring abilities
  • Strong business acumen and customer service orientation
