Job Summary: This position is part of the Warfare Centers Personnel Demonstration Project. The NT-5 pay band encompasses positions equivalent to GS-13 and GS-14. You will serve as the Senior Windows System Administrator in the Corporate Operations Department, ACIO/Information Technology Division, IT Operations Branch (Code 1041) of the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division.

Major Duties:

  • You will manage Windows Server and workstation environments, including installation, configuration, patching, and lifecycle management.
  • You will administer Active Directory infrastructure including Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and certificate-based authentication services.
  • You will administer Microsoft services like SQL Server, Internet Information Services, and Microsoft Configuration Manager, ensuring secure configuration, patch management, and reliable system operation.
  • You will provide expert-level troubleshooting and problem resolution for complex Windows-based systems and services, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum system availability.
  • You will collaborate with security teams to design and implement security best practices within the Windows environment, ensuring compliance with relevant standards.
  • You will develop and maintain comprehensive documentation of the Windows infrastructure architecture, configurations, and operational procedures to facilitate knowledge sharing and efficient troubleshooting.
  • You will conduct vulnerability remediation by analyzing security scans, planning mitigation, and implementing corrective actions.
  • You will mentor and guide junior Windows administrators and engineers, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous learning within the team.
  • You will serve as the senior escalation point for complex Windows infrastructure issues, performing root cause analysis to prevent recurrence.
  • You will work closely with cross-functional teams (e.g., networking, security, application development) to diagnose and resolve multi-system technical issues.
  • You will develop and maintain automation scripts with tools like PowerShell to improve system management and operational efficiency.
  • You will identify opportunities to streamline processes using automation to improve reliability and reduce manual administration.

Qualifications: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the NT-4 pay band (GS-11 and GS-12 equivalency) in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Providing expert-level systems administration for enterprise Windows Server environments and enterprise client systems, while ensuring cybersecurity compliance through automated patch management, system hardening, vulnerability remediation, and configuration control to maintain the effectiveness and efficiency of the Information Technology (IT) program. Experience includes administering Active Directory services, system security configurations, operating system updates, and enterprise management tools to maintain system availability, performance, and security. Your experience must reflect skill in the following areas: attention to detail, customer service, oral communication, and problem solving.
