Overview

The Senior Welder performs a variety of journey level fabrication and repair welding on mechanized equipment, structures, buildings, or heavy equipment.

Essential Functions

1 Performs maintenance and repair welding on equipment such as large mowers, tractors, trucks, heavy equipment,
animal cages, and machinery to ensure compliance with layouts, blueprints, or work orders; performs preventive maintenance on equipment to ensure proper operation and compliance with safety standards.

2 Fabricates, welds, and makes metal components for equipment or structures according to layouts, blueprints or work orders; uses, applies, and implements arc and gas welders, acetylene oxygen welding equipment, MIG welder, portable magnetic drill press, or cutting torch; adheres to safety standards and protocols.

3 Maintains welding supplies inventory to ensure necessary supplies are available when needed; tracks, organizes, and monitors equipment and supply use; identifies needs, makes purchasing recommendations, and restocks supplies.

4 Drives and operates a mobile welding unit to make necessary field repairs; communicates with various other individuals and departments on necessary repairs and work orders.

5 Assists, supports, and participates in the mechanical repair of heavy equipment to maintain proper working condition.

6 Trains and assists apprentice welders in performing job duties; monitors and checks work to ensure safety, efficiency, and quality; participates in scheduling and assignment delegation, tracks work orders, and ensures all work is complete.

7 Performs any and all other trades work as needed or assigned.

Knowledge and Skills

1 Knowledge of the principles, practices, techniques, safety precautions, equipment and materials used in welding.

2 Ability to perform simple mathematical calculations to fabricate or make modifications to equipment.

3 Ability to drive and operate a mobile welding unit.

4 Ability to perform overhead, horizontal, vertical, and flat welding.

5 Skilled in use of arc and acetylene welding equipment.

6 Ability to read blueprints and design drawings.

7 Ability to complete routine paperwork.

Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.

9 Establishing and maintaining effective relationships.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EXPERIENCE:

  • Three (3) years of welding experience.

EQUIVALENCY(IES):  

  •  Welding certificate from a trade school plus two (2) years of the required experience will meet the education and experience requirements.

LICENSE(S) and/or CERTIFICATION(S):

  • Valid driver's license with good driving record.

  • Some positions require Class A or B Commercial Driver's License. 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Subject to evening and weekend shifts



Salary Range

 

$23.68 - $26.61
