Job Profile Summary
Responsible for governing a team of underwriters as well as performing underwriting functions (player-coach). As a player, supports the Business Development Officer (BDO) in conducting and producing an analysis of the prospect’s business, creates an approval package which includes financial modeling and structuring alternatives with recommendations to KBBC management team and ultimately to be used in seeking credit approval. As a senior underwriter, strives to develop a “trusted advisor” relationship based upon knowledgeable advice and insights that is aligned with the Client’s’ or Prospect’s’ business or industry. As a coach, oversees the prescreen and underwriting process as well as skill set development of each team player, assists as needed throughout the process and reviews all final packages.
As part of the first line of defense, underwriters are expected to consistently demonstrate a solutions-oriented, growth mindset that is supportive of line of business goals while still maintaining a moderate risk appetite and upholding asset quality.
Job Description
Responsibilities
- Conducts the analysis and underwriting of all new Client transactions. Proposes recommended structure and accumulates all data necessary to perform focused analysis.
- Participates within the site visits and is actively involved in discussions with the appropriate Client representative (CFO and/or Client senior management) throughout the underwriting process.
- Assists in coordinating and reviewing third party collateral and field exam reports.
- Ensures an efficient and effective transfer of knowledge from the BDO to the Portfolio Manager.
- Reviews financial statements and all other relevant financial and non-financial data to develop a concise, focused analytical foundation for a credit decision.
- Provides value-added feedback through risk/mitigant analysis.
- Focuses on the liquidity and cash flow outlook as a foundation for the credit’s projected performance.
- Proactively engages with deal teams to recommend solutions, generate ideas, address arising issues and/ or anticipated challenges.
- Follows market activity and trends including trends inside and outside of asset-based lending markets and delivers actionable advice to deal structurers/BDO.
- Identify and discuss the material industry risks and the methods used by the Client to successfully compete.
- Proven understanding of the importance of balancing business development and asset quality.

- Interacts with KBBC senior management, LOB as well as credit partners to assist with ongoing focus initiatives.
- Demonstrate an enterprise mindset by partnering with sales leaders and business partners to support the bank's relationship model while adhering to Key’s risk culture practices, effectively managing risk/reward tradeoffs.
- Manage employee performance and development: complete manager evaluations, provide coaching and career development recommendations, participate in talent and performance calibrations and assess the "what" and "how" factors of performance.
- Ensure that employee training and compliance is completed in a timely manner.
- Take a lead role in developing the bench for new talent, including support for, and active participation in, talent acquisition/recruiting efforts.
- Coordinate and/or assist in gathering ad hoc data as periodically required by senior management or risk partners.
- Develop and maintain a network of contacts and resources throughout the bank in order to facilitate collaboration, appropriately escalate issues, quickly resolve problems, and enlist in-house experts to share knowledge with BGPM.

Education Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience in finance, accounting, economics and/or business (required)
- Master's Degree /MBA (preferred)
Experience Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years of commercial underwriting/credit banking/financial services experience with preference of five years plus of experience as an Asset Based lending underwriter or equivalent role.
- Competent with Microsoft Office and ability to learn and effectively utilize other technology applications (required)
- Broad experience with a variety of financial analysis/modeling scenarios including knowledge of secured and unsecured corporate cash flow lending (required)
- Extensive experience leveraging research, due diligence and prior deal knowledge to challenge assertions, assess corporate creditworthiness and provide recommendations for structuring and developing an underwriting package (required)
- Proven track record of efficiently and effectively identifying, executing and coordinating the delivery of comprehensive solutions for the lending product and advising others regarding underwriting process and best practices (required)
- Proven success building client relationships, managing conflict resolution, and influencing to drive for effective business results (required)
- Demonstrated enterprise mindset; extensive understanding of banking and investment banking products and services and current market dynamics, trends, and terms with a track record of delivering Key's relationship banking model to clients (required)
- Excellent presentation and communication skills, with the ability to collaboratively influence and challenge (required)

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
This position is eligible to earn a base salary in the range of $128,000.00 - $268,000.00 annually. Placement within the pay range may differ based upon various factors, including but not limited to skills, experience and geographic location. Compensation for this role also includes eligibility for incentive compensation which may include production, commission, and/or discretionary incentives.
