What you'll be doing

As a member of CIBC’s Digital UX Research team, the Sr User Experience Researcher is responsible for contributing to the user experience of CIBC’s digital properties. In this role you'll use a variety of UX research techniques in collaboration with other members of the UX Research Team, UX Designers, Product Owners and Strategists to help improve CIBC’s digital properties. Furthermore, you will assist in recording and summarizing research findings and presenting the analysis in compelling formats that are easy to understand and act on.

How you'll succeed

  • User Research and Testing: Lead both generative and evaluative user research initiatives, employing a wide range of methodologies—including interviews, surveys, usability testing, card sorting, and analytics analysis—in close collaboration with other user researchers.
  • Data Analysis, Interpretation, and Presentation: Analyze qualitative and quantitative data to generate actionable insights and recommendations. Take ownership of planning, executing, analyzing, and presenting research studies to various stakeholders, ensuring findings are clear and impactful.
  • Stakeholder Management: Manage complex project requirements and engage with challenging stakeholders. Proactively identify and pursue high-value research opportunities that deliver meaningful impact, beyond simply fulfilling requested studies.
  • Administration and Teamwork: Contribute to research operations by maintaining and enhancing the UX research capability. Participate in building a robust body of knowledge and help streamline processes to support user-centered design.
  • Mentoring and Coaching: Mentor and support junior researchers and team members, fostering the growth of UX research skills and knowledge across the team. Provide guidance, share best practices, and encourage continuous learning.
  • Flexible Work Environment: Enjoy flexibility in managing your work activities within a hybrid arrangement, spending 1–3 days per week on-site and the remainder working remotely, to create the optimal environment for your success at CIBC.
  • Problem Solving: Thrive on tackling complex challenges and collaborating with colleagues to develop innovative solutions.
  • UX Research Tools: Demonstrate proficiency in Excel and survey methodologies. Experience with UX research platforms such as Maze, UserTesting, UserZoom, Figma, or FigJam is considered an asset.
  • Communication: Exhibit exceptional verbal and written communication skills to effectively articulate research findings, interpretations, and recommendations.
  • Organization: Possess strong time management skills, enabling you to prioritize competing demands and deliver successful outcomes.
  • Process Improvement: Proactively review and optimize current processes, identifying improvements that enhance research standards and efficiency.

Who you are

  • Educational Background: Hold a degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Psychology, Sociology, Cognitive Science, Information Studies, Anthropology, or a related field.
  • Experience: Have a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in UX research.
  • Research Expertise: Skilled in both qualitative and quantitative research methods, including surveys, interviews, usability testing, and observational studies.
  • Attention to Detail: Able to summarize findings, identify trends, and ensure the accuracy and clarity of research outputs.
  • Communication Skills: Possess strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication abilities.
  • Critical Thinking & Organization: Demonstrate robust critical thinking, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
