GENERAL FUNCTION:

A Senior Underwriter will have primary responsibility for leading a deal team to underwrite and execute commercial loans and tax equity financings, including bilateral loans and both lead and non-lead syndicated opportunities. The ideal candidate will have exceptional financing agreement, tax equity and debt modeling, project finance, and underwriting skills. This position is client-facing, requiring the individual to lead diligence calls and negotiate financing agreements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the underwriting process both internally and externally with clients, including leading diligence calls and negotiating credit agreements.
  • Structure loans and tax equity financings, underwrite and document client transactions within the Bank’s risk parameters.
  • Demonstrate strong client selection, financing agreement, tax equity and debt modeling, project finance, and underwriting skills, including identification and assessment of key credit risks.
  • Strong partner to Banking, Credit Risk, Debt Capital Markets, Portfolio Management partners.
  • Responsible for maintaining an extensive level of knowledge of commercial and investment banking solutions, in addition to market trends and business drivers.
  • May be required to maintain industry expertise in one or more sectors; understand and articulate industry trends, providing expert insights and tailored solutions.
  • Lead financial and business due diligence, including company and industry research, cash flow modeling, and financial analysis to determine the creditworthiness of prospective borrowers.
  • Develop an independent risk recommendation and gain approval from Risk.
  • Challenge the status quo to ensure we get to the best solution.
  • Meet with prospects / clients as needed.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of credit policies, procedures, and terminology. Partner with LOB and Risk to maintain and update relevant credit policies.
  • Train and develop Underwriting Principals, Associates, Senior Analysts and Analysts.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

May include direct or indirect supervision and direction of the day-to-day activities of junior underwriting professionals. Provide employees and key internal partners with timely, candid, and constructive performance feedback. Develop employees to their fullest potential and provide challenging opportunities that enhance career growth.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • 10+ years of experience in renewable energy finance, preferably in the banking or investment banking industry.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Subject matter expert level understanding of accounting, credit, tax equity, structuring, underwriting, debt and tax equity modeling, project finance, and legal documentation.
  • Communication skills: clearly articulate viewpoints verbally and in writing, fostering confidence when sharing/presenting information.
  • Collaboration skills: works effectively in a cross-functional team environment.
  • Strong work ethic; comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven ability to deliver consistent, reliable, and timely execution in a time-sensitive transactional role.

Total Base Pay Range 121,900.00 - 262,100.00 USD Annual

The base salary for this position is reflective of the range of salary levels for all roles within this pay grade across the U.S. Individual salaries within this range will vary based on factors such as role, relevant skillset, relevant experience, education and geographic location. In addition to the base salary, this role is eligible to participate in an incentive compensation plan, with any such payment based upon company, line of business and/or individual performance.
