The Opportunity  

This Senior Underwriter role will see you underwrite new business and renewals of high complexity and/or volume within set underwriting guidelines, authority levels and service standards and manage key portfolios/accounts with intermediaries. In this role you will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing relationships with brokers/intermediaries to successfully retain policies and grow the portfolio in a profitable well-structured manner for our Construction portfolio.

Your new role  

A day in the role may look a bit like this:

  • Actively manage renewal portfolios and new business targets.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders for profitable growth.
  • Underwrite complex risks within defined authority limits, organisational policies, and underwriting standards.
  • Monitor, review, and comply with all underwriting standards, procedures, and processes.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers, brokers, and colleagues to achieve business retention, growth, and profitability targets.
  • Increase and share knowledge of QBE capabilities, risk appetite, products, and brokers' operations to deliver innovative solutions. Monitor and communicate portfolio, broker, and competitor activities to identify opportunities and risks. Maintain in-depth knowledge of current legislation, best practices, underwriting, systems, products, and organisational guidelines.

About you  

To be successful in this role you will have a proven background in the insurance industry and strong Underwriting experience. You will also have the following skills and attributes:

  • Proven years of relevant underwriting experience
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications, specialist qualifications or equivalent
  • Strong established customer / broker relationships
  • Extensive knowledge of relevant market conditions
  • Working knowledge of risk management, portfolio management and underwriting
