Senior Underwriter, Casualty

How does this role help us to succeed?

Senior Underwriter, Casualty - you will be a vital member of the team, supporting the profitability and growth of the Casualty underwriting operation: continuously developing, implementing, maintaining and improving underwriting appetite, guidelines, protocols, rates, pricing, quality of service, and strategic planning. Interact and grow relationships with clients.

What will you do in this role?

  • Support the Portfolio management of GL, Excess/Umbrella business.
  • Develop and manage broker and client relationships
  • Prospect new business targets and opportunities. Develop account strategy and actively pursue new opportunities.
  • Review and evaluate new and renewal business based upon company guidelines. Develop account strategy and proposal based upon full underwriting knowledge including industry, competitor news and economic factors.
  • Develop and implement long-term Casualty strategy including budget, forecast, etc.
  • Review account coverage requests. Determine AXIS position within granted authority and communicate to brokers.
  • Analyze and underwrite individual risks. Develop appropriate limit structure, retention pricing and endorsements.
  • Meet all divisional servicing objectives including but not limited to quote turnaround, policy issuance, phone management, renewal management, file maintenance and documentation, etc.
  • Maintain data integrity for underwriting system.
  • Travel as necessary to build and maintain relationships and identify product opportunities.
  • Collaborate with peers to seek out new production sources and allow for successful cross-marketing of AXIS products.
  • Articulate the company’s position and risk appetite to the brokerage community to attract desired business.

You may also be required to take on additional duties, responsibilities and activities appropriate to the nature of this role.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate should have extensive experience in a leading Commercial Insurance Carrier. They should be knowledgeable in General Liability, Excess Commercial Casualty, and Umbrella insurance.

In addition to technical expertise, the Casualty Underwriter should be capable of developing and establishing relationships with retail brokers. They should also demonstrate proficiency in all aspects of the underwriting process.

Furthermore, the candidate must be skilled in communication and persuasion. It is important for them to establish connections that benefit AXIS and support long-term strategic goals.

What you need to have

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; CIP/FCIP designation preferred
  • 5 or more years of casualty underwriting experience
  • Advanced technical expertise, underwriting skills and a high level of knowledge of insurance and underwriting principles, practices and procedures
  • Strong relationship management skills
  • Strong marketing and presentation skills
