About this opportunity:
As a Deployed Training & Competency Assurance Senior Advisor, you will play a critical role in strengthening frontline capability and operational readiness across multiple sites. You’ll bring deep technical expertise and advanced operational knowledge to lead the end‑to‑end execution of maintenance and operations training, ensuring alignment with standards, the Competency Assurance Program (CAP), and regulatory requirements. You will also provide guidance to site leadership on regional training requirements and competency program implementation to support consistent readiness across the business.
In this senior-level role, you’ll mentor Operators and training professionals, deliver on‑site coaching and formal assessments, partner with SMEs to develop advanced training solutions, and drive continuous improvement in training quality and workforce performance. Your work directly influences safety, competency, and operational excellence across the region.
While this vacancy is currently at Sunrise, this posting could be used to fill vacancies at any of the Oil Sands Operations sites (Christina Lake, Christina Lake North, Foster Creek, or Sunrise, based on business need).

Foster Creek and Christina Lake has full-service camp facilities
Depending on your place of residence and your shift rotation, bus and/or air transportation to/from site is offered from designated departure points in select locations
Foster Creek is serviced by flight Hubs in Calgary and Edmonton
Christina Lake is serviced by flight Hubs in Calgary and Edmonton as well as bus transportation to site from La Corey, AB. and Lac La Biche, AB
Christina Lake North is serviced by flight hubs in Calgary and Edmonton
Sunrise
This is a full-time employee position working a shift rotation
Sunrise is located approximately 100 km northeast of the City of Fort McMurray and is a fly in/ fly out remote camp-based position.
Cenovus will provide transportation to Sunrise from designated hubs out of Calgary and Edmonton
At the Sunrise site, employees will be provided comfortable camp accommodations and recreational amenities
What you’ll do:
Deliver on‑site coaching, mentoring, classroom/virtual/field training, and formal CAP competency assessments and sign‑offs.
Design, update, and deploy training solutions in partnership with SMEs, Instructional Designers, and site leaders.
Lead day‑to‑day training execution, including onboarding and guidance for less‑experienced advisors and training staff.
Maintain and improve training content, documentation, and control processes to ensure compliance and alignment with standards.
Manage scheduling and logistics for specialized and high‑risk training, including equipment such as cranes, ATVs, ARGOs, and MEWPs.
Partner with Operations, Maintenance, H&S, Learning Services, and site leadership to keep materials current and address training or competency gaps, including advising on regional training requirements.
Support continuous improvement through KPI reporting, process optimization, change management, and adherence to competency assurance standards.
Act as the primary focal point for aligning job profiles, training plans, and competency requirements with corporate frameworks across multiple sites.
Who you are:
Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:
Legally authorized to work in Canada
A diploma, trade or Journeyman certification, OH&S certification (e.g. NCSO certification), or technical credential (e.g., 4th or 3rd Class Power Engineer) is preferred.
Minimum of 8 years of related industry experience, ideally within oil and gas operations or maintenance.
Knowledge of adult learning principles, learning management systems, training facilitation, and competency assurance programs or frameworks would be considered an asset.
Strong understanding of operational practices, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
Proven facilitation, presentation, and project management skills.

As this position has been identified as safety sensitive, employment of a final candidate selected for this position will be conditional upon successful completion of required pre-employment medical and alcohol/drug assessments.
For this position you will be required to maintain a Class 5 driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and adhere to the appropriate Company policies and guidelines. A driver's abstract will be one of the background checks requested in the pre-employment screening for the final candidate.
