Senior Title IX Investigator

ABOUT THE POSITION:

Under the leadership and general supervision of the Assistant Vice President for Title IX, and TCC Title IX Administrator, the Senior Title IX Investigator is responsible for assessing Title IX and other sex-based misconduct complaints filed by students, staff, and faculty of The Claremont Colleges, conducting timely Title IX investigations pursuant to The Claremont Colleges Interim Policy on Title IX Sexual Harassment, Other Sex-Based Misconduct, and Retaliation, creating files and documentation, and preparing initial and final reports.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The following are the essential duties and responsibilities the incumbent must be able to perform.

1.     Conduct thorough, impartial, well documented, and timely investigations in compliance with Title IX, California Education Code, and The Claremont Colleges Interim Policy on Title IX Sexual Harassment, Other Sex-Based Misconduct, and Retaliation.

2.     Interview complainants, respondents, and relevant witnesses. Document all interviews with parties and witnesses.

3.     Gather relevant evidence.

4.     Maintain detailed and organized confidential case files.

5.     Draft comprehensive, concise, and well-written correspondence, documents, preliminary investigation reports, and final investigation reports in accordance with Policy.

6.     Work collaboratively with the Title IX Coordinators of all the Colleges to assess allegations and ensure investigations move forward in an equitable and timely manner and adhere to Policy.

7.     Stay thoroughly knowledgeable in Title IX, The Claremont Colleges Interim Policy on Title IX Sexual Harassment, Other Sex-Based Misconduct, and Retaliation , relevant Federal and California state laws and regulations, as well as relevant changes and trends in Title IX.

8.     Review and provide potential Policy revisions based on changing regulations in the field.

9.     Assist with providing  Policy training and education to the Colleges as requested.

10.  Perform other related duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: The regular work hours for this full-time, exempt position are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. This is a hybrid position.  May be required to work occasional holiday, weekend, and/or evening hours. Regular hours may vary due to the needs of the organization or business unit.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Unless otherwise stated, the following qualifications are required to perform the essential functions of this position, or the individual must demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed (with or without reasonable accommodation) using other qualifications not listed below.  

Education and Experience:

  •  A bachelor’s (BA/BS) degree from an accredited institution plus five (5) years of experience in legal or compliance-related work, including conducting intakes and investigations involving allegations of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation, including sexual assault, dating and domestic violence, and stalking.

OR

        

  • A Juris Doctorate (JD) or a master’s degree (in criminal justice, social work, or a related field) plus three (3) years of experience in legal or compliance-related work, including conducting reinvestigations involving allegations of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation, including sexual assault, dating and domestic violence, and stalking.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

  • Knowledge and familiarity with applicable state and federal laws related to discrimination, harassment, and retaliation, including Title IX, VAWA, Clery,  California Education Code, and Campus SaVE.

  • Knowledge and familiarity with handling complaints of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation through entire grievance process; including intakes, complaint submission, report writing, hearing, and appeal process.

  • Ability to review and interpret legal documents and policy, and provide guidance and feedback

  • The ability and willingness to neutrally and independently conduct complex investigations involving allegations of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation, including sexual misconduct, dating and domestic violence, and stalking.

  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills in English with attention to detail, strong interview skills utilizing trauma-informed approach for parties and witnesses.

  • Maintain a high level of accuracy and confidentiality.

  • Strong data and evidence collecting skills and the ability to assess relevancy.

  • Strong ability to maintain composure in challenging, sensitive, and high-stakes situations.

  • Strong ethics and an ability to be compassionate while remaining impartial.

  • Ability to be kind, respectful, and adaptable in difficult situations.

  • Creativity and the ability to identify innovative solutions.

  • The ability and willingness to be a supportive and collaborative team member.

Preferred Qualifications: The following qualifications are preferred:

  • A JD (Juris Doctorate) or a master’s degree in criminal justice, social work, or related field.

COMPENSATION:

Pay: The pay range for this position is $9,166.66 to $10,833.33 per month depending on experience.
