Astreya is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Telecommunications Engineer. This position is responsible for the independent design, implementation, and technical management of telecommunications projects, balancing technical execution with project leadership, including contract development and stakeholder representation. The engineer is well versed in Microwave, LAN/WAN, RF technologies and serves as a bridge between high-level project goals and detailed design, ensuring that all solutions are technically sound, cost-effective, and aligned with both immediate needs and long-term infrastructure health.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Technical Design & Engineering Strategy
Conceptual Design: Develop conceptual designs, construction packages, and innovative solutions for challenging technical issues.
Standards & Compliance: Create designs in compliance with all applicable standards, regulations, and industry best practices.
Technical Expertise: Experienced in Microwave, LAN/WAN and RF technologies
Technical Analysis: Perform engineering analyses, comparative studies of alternatives, and detailed impact analyses of technical issues.
Documentation: Spec and create Bills of Material (BOM), ensure completion of drawings, and work with design engineers to guarantee final documentation accuracy.
Innovation: Keep up-to-date on emerging technologies and their applications to telecommunications systems.
Project Leadership
Strategic Advice: Provide technical advice to Project Managers regarding the scheduling of technical activities and their budget impact.
Estimating: Create engineering estimates in collaboration with team members to ensure consistent product delivery.
Field Execution: Perform job walk downs and handoffs at various project sites, including substations and construction sites.
Issue Resolution: Provide detailed project engineering support and resolve technical issues as they arise in operational settings.
Safety Leadership: Execute all actions and decisions with safety as the top priority; instill safety best practices into all job functions.
Stakeholder Management & Communication
Client Relations: Establish clear communications with internal and external clients to ensure project scope is well-defined and meets needs.
Collaboration: Build constructive and effective relationships with stakeholders and communicate effectively with suppliers and contractors.
Knowledge Sharing: Act as a resource for engineering expertise and facilitate discussions to ensure accurate decision-making processes.
Reporting: Communicate technical and process issues—and their impact on the project schedule—clearly and succinctly.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
8+ years of experience as a Telecom Engineer, including field and site visits
5+ years of technical experience working with Microwave, LAN/WAN, and RF technologies
Experience in Utilities (preferred)

Physical Requirements:
May or may not be in a client and or Remote work environment that requires sitting/standing for extended periods of time. Manual dexterity and proficiency with computers and typing, often for several hours a day. This includes using a keyboard, mouse, and video conferencing equipment. Visual and auditory abilities to review digital content, read documents, participate in virtual meetings, and communicate and collaborate effectively using various platforms. While most work will be conducted from a desk, remote work may still require basic mobility for home office setup adjustments, attending virtual presentations, or organizing workspace materials.
While primarily sedentary, this role benefits from incorporating breaks, stretching, and ergonomic adjustments to prevent strain from prolonged screen time.
Ability to perform office-based tasks including prolonged use of computer systems, attending meetings and training sessions in person or virtually, including travel to PG&E offices or other field based locations, as required.
Effective verbal and written communication across mediums (email, chat, call)
Occasional repetitive motions (typing, mouse use, bending, walking, standing, reaching, lifting and carrying light materials - typically < 15 pounds)
May require occasional extended work hours or a flexible schedule to manage incident escalation, system deployments, or critical operational needs
Salary Range
