About the Team

The Workday Data Cloud Platform team is building an industry-leading, comprehensive data management and analytics platform that enables customers to unlock the highest value from their enterprise data and drive better business outcomes.

This role sits within the infrastructure data platform area of Data Cloud, where we are focused on scaling the underlying platform to meet both vertical and horizontal demands of a cloud data platform. You will work closely with the Delivery Engineering team, which operates across distributed systems, observability tooling, agent ops, cloud automation, security, and resiliency. We are growing our footprint across multiple cloud locations and taking on exciting new use cases for the business.

This is a fast-moving, technically oriented team that is leaning into AI to improve how we operate. If you are energised by building the foundational platform that powers the next generation of enterprise analytics, this is the team for you.

About the Role

As a Senior Technical Product Manager on the Data Cloud Platform team, you will be at the centre of defining what the platform needs to become, bridging the gap between the needs of data-centric applications and what the infrastructure can deliver. You will shape the direction of a platform that underpins Workday’s analytics capabilities, partnering across engineering, SRE, performance, and go-to-market teams to ensure the platform scales securely and effectively in the public cloud.

Depending on your experience and scope, we are open to hiring at either the Senior or Principal Product Manager level. At the Principal level, you will take on greater ownership of cross-team strategy, influence across org boundaries, and long-term platform vision.

Responsibilities:

  • Dive into use cases and deeply understand what Data Cloud Platform must provide so internal teams can build the next generation of analytic applications using our data management capabilities
  • Develop proficiency in architectural approaches and provide guidance on APIs and micro-services that serve as building blocks for platform and application development
  • Identify, specify, and prioritise features and capabilities through input from customers, partner teams, architects, and your own domain expertise
  • Partner with Product Managers across Workday’s various pillars to identify functional and nonfunctional requirements, with a focus on scale, performance, and security
  • Act as the Product Owner in one or more scrum teams: setting the vision, writing and prioritising user stories, grooming the backlog, keeping the team focused, and communicating regularly with partners
  • Build out the infrastructure strategy for the Data Cloud Platform on public cloud
  • Work closely with Distributed Service, SRE and Performance teams

About You

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of related product management experience in SaaS, cloud infrastructure, or data platform environments
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline such as Business, Computer Science, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

Other Qualifications:

  • Domain Knowledge: Strong technical understanding of data platforms and distributed systems, including familiarity with technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, and cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or similar environments. You apply this specialised knowledge to inform platform direction and anticipate future trends and changes.
  • Research and Requirements Gathering (Research): Skilled in conducting discovery and requirements gathering to clearly define the problem space. You use techniques such as customer interviews, data analysis, and cross-functional workshops to help the team deeply understand developer and customer needs and to inform well-prioritised product decisions.
  • Data Analysis: Comfortable using data to build business cases, evaluate tradeoffs, and measure outcomes. You can translate complex data into clear, actionable insights that guide product direction and prioritisation.
  • Strategic Thinking and Roadmapping: Experienced in operating in the problem space and using roadmaps as a critical artefact for how you work. You connect platform strategy to customer and business outcomes, and can communicate a clear multi-quarter vision that aligns teams and partners.
  • Stakeholder Management & Cross-Team Collaboration: Skilled at collaborating across engineering, SRE, performance, security, and go-to-market teams. You build strong relationships, manage differing perspectives, and drive alignment on priorities and tradeoffs.
  • Customer & Business Advocacy: Dedicated to representing the voice of the customer and the business strategy internally. You understand how platform decisions impact application developers and end customers, and use that insight to influence product design, reliability, and usability.
  • Very good product management fundamentals: you are comfortable framing problems, defining success metrics, and breaking complex initiatives into incremental, testable deliverables.

Our Approach to Flexible Work

With Flex Work, we’re combining the best of both worlds: in-person time and remote. Our approach enables our teams to deepen connections, maintain a strong community, and do their best work. We know that flexibility can take shape in many ways, so rather than a number of required days in-office each week, we simply spend at least half (50%) of our time each quarter in the office or in the field with our customers, prospects, and partners (depending on role). This means you'll have the freedom to create a flexible schedule that caters to your business, team, and personal needs, while being intentional to make the most of time spent together. Those in our remote "home office" roles also have the opportunity to come together in our offices for important moments that matter.

At Workday, we are committed to providing an accessible and inclusive hiring experience where all candidates can fully demonstrate their skills. If you require assistance or an accommodation at any point, please email
