About the Role

We are seeking a highly organised and technically skilled Senior Technical Officer, to provide leadership and coordination of technical services for teaching and research laboratories within the College of Science and Engineering, with a primary focus on Physics. In this role, you will play a key part in ensuring laboratories are safe, well-equipped, and effectively managed to support high-quality, hands-on student learning experiences.

As the Senior Technical Officer, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and coordinating a team to deliver high-quality laboratory teaching support.
  • Overseeing the preparation and setup of materials, equipment, and consumables for practical classes.
  • Managing laboratory operations, including procurement, maintenance, stock control, and forward resource planning.
  • Partnering with academic staff to support the delivery, scheduling, and continuous improvement of practical teaching.

About You

You are a collaborative and proactive technical professional with strong organisational skills and experience supporting teaching laboratories in a science or engineering environment. With a strong background in physics laboratories and technical instrumentation, you bring the expertise required to support high-quality practical teaching while coordinating technical staff and resources.

You will demonstrate:

  • A degree in Physics (or related discipline) or equivalent experience, with strong knowledge of laboratory instrumentation and electronics.
  • Experience in maintaining, calibrating, and troubleshooting laboratory equipment.
  • Proven ability to coordinate or supervise staff within a technical or laboratory setting.
  • Strong organisational, communication, and WHS knowledge to effectively support safe and high-quality teaching and research.
