Financial Crime Compliance (FCC) is a team of over 190 professionals and is an integral part of CBA’s Group Risk Function. FCC is accountable for the development, implementation and ongoing governance of the Group’s financial crime compliance program. This includes driving the Group’s approach to managing Anti-Money Laundering/Counter Terrorist Financing (AML/CTF), Sanctions, Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC) and Anti-Tax Evasion (ATE) risks and obligations.
What your role will involve
As a Senior Technical Business Analyst, you will be part of a specialist engineering team reporting to the Chapter Lead, Data Engineering. While focused on supporting CBA’s New Zealand-based subsidiary (ASB), you will operate within the broader financial crime advisory team, contributing to technology and process improvements that strengthen financial crime detection and prevention, ensure regulatory compliance, and support strategic reforms aligned to Australian requirements and AUSTRAC expectations.
You will play a key role in shaping data-driven solutions within the Financial Crime domain, working closely with business and technology stakeholders to understand complex problems and translate requirements into scalable, high-quality solutions. You will analyse, profile and map data underpinning financial crime systems, including transaction monitoring, customer risk assessment and regulatory reporting, applying strong data analytics and domain expertise to ensure solutions are accurate, compliant and aligned to regulatory expectations.
You will collaborate with engineers, analysts and stakeholders across FCC Australia and New Zealand to deliver outcomes that improve detection, reporting and risk management capabilities.
On any given day, you will
Elicit, analyse and translate business and data requirements into clear functional designs and user stories
Analyse, profile and map complex datasets across multiple systems and platforms
Define data requirements, data lineage and transformation logic for financial crime use cases
Collaborate with stakeholders to validate requirements and ensure alignment to business objectives
Support agile delivery by ensuring user stories meet definition of ready and acceptance criteria
Work closely with engineers to design data-driven solutions and integration patterns
Analyse business processes, rules and system behaviours to identify improvement opportunities
Contribute to solution design, ensuring outcomes are robust, scalable and compliant
Participate in delivery planning and continuous improvement initiatives
Communicate insights and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders
We’re interested in hearing from people who have
Strong experience as a Technical Business Analyst working on data-intensive platforms
Proven experience in data analysis, data profiling and data mapping across complex systems
Strong SQL skills and experience working with large datasets
Experience with data analytics tools and techniques to derive insights and support decision-making
Experience working with APIs, integrations and distributed systems
Experience with cloud platforms, particularly AWS
Strong understanding of data lifecycle, data governance and data quality principles
Experience working in Agile delivery environments (e.g. Scrum, DevSecOps)
Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to synthesise complex information into actionable insights
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Desirable:
Experience in Financial Crime, AML/CTF or regulatory reporting domains
Experience working on large-scale Data Warehousing and ETL programs within Financial Services
Familiarity with tools such as Jira, Confluence and SDLC frameworks
Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Computer Science or Information Technology
