We currently have the following opportunity available - please contact us for more details!

We don’t just build technology. We build hope for everyone dealing with cancer.

At Elekta, you will make a difference. We are seeking a Senior System Engineer – Usability and Design Validation for our team developing the Leksell Gamma Knife® within the Neuro Solutions Business Line. We are leaders in precision radiation therapy. Guaranteed precision spares healthy tissue to help protect the mind and the person.

The Leksell Gamma Knife® consists of mechanical systems and software user interfaces used by clinicians, operators, patients, and service personnel. The Control System for Leksell Gamma Knife® manages accurate and safe delivery of radiation treatment to the patient. It spans from the operator’s user interface to the subsystems that drive the mechatronic components. It controls operator workflows, treatment targeting, imaging, safety functions and communication. The Leksell Gamma Knife® also includes a desktop integrated treatment planning system, Leksell GammaPlan, with large GUI desktop applications.

You’ll work hands-on with both new development and maintenance of a safety-critical device in a regulated medtech environment. Your work will directly contribute to helping medical professionals deliver personalized and precise cancer treatments — while being part of a team that supports each other and collaborates closely across disciplines.

What you’ll work on

You’ll join a cross-functional engineering team and work closely with software, mechanical and verification engineers, product manager, safety engineer, technical writers, and application specialists. You will also work closely with the other usability and validation specialists within Neuro solutions. We value collaboration, open communication, and a supportive environment where everyone’s ideas are heard. From a usability engineering and design validation perspective, your work will focus on developing a device that is safe and effective for the intended users, uses and use environments. Your work will have a direct impact on patient treatment and the long-term evolution of the Leksell Gamma Knife®.

As a System engineer within Usability and Design Validation you will:

  • Manage usability engineering and the Design validation activities, mainly for the Leksell Gamma Plan®, within the Neuro Solution Business Line, i.e. plan, execute, analyze, follow up, report and document. This includes, but is not limited to, workflow design, use scenario definition, formative and summative evaluations.
  • Act as both Design Validation and Usability engineering specialist to guide and collaborate with colleagues such as safety engineers, developers, product managers, application specialists and validators.
  • Participate in all R&D systems engineering activities with emphasis on Systems engineering tasks such as requirement gathering, understanding and defining user needs, concept modelling and safety analysis.
  • Review process updates together with process owners and leaders to improve system engineering processes and ways of working, particularly those related to usability engineering and design validation.
  • Follow the technical and clinical developments within the field (usability engineering, validation methods and related activities).
  • Be aware of and take into consideration developments within the field, including new and changed standards.

Who you are

This is a senior technical role for an engineer with broad system understanding and focus on user needs, workflows and user experience.

We think you’ll thrive if you:

  • Have worked with both hardware and software product development. Experience within UX design is an advantage.
  • Have documented knowledge and experience from Usability engineering work for medical devices and are familiar with applicable standards (i.e. IEC 62366-1).
  • Are experienced with working from early concepts and user reviews through iterative prototyping and formative evaluation, summative evaluation and design validation.
  • Appreciate cross-functional collaboration and want to work closely with specialists across software, mechanics, quality, product management and service.
  • Want to work in a regulated medtech environment to do meaningful work that improves patient treatment.

We also expect that you have

  • B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Computer Science, Engineering Physics, Mechanical engineering or similar.
  • Professional proficiency in English.
  • Valid work permit for Sweden.

You’ll have access to experienced usability and validation specialists, safety, and SW/HW engineers for onboarding and peer review of your plans and documentation. If you meet most—but not all—of the requirements, we still encourage you to apply. We know that strong candidates come from a variety of backgrounds.
