Right now, we are seeking a Systems Engineer or Senior Systems Engineer to join the Mission System team as part of the Modernisation of Maritime Electronic Warfare (MMEW) program, driving design maturity, integration, and critical delivery outcomes.

In this role, you would support the team’s digital engineering and Model‑Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) practices, performing iterative system design, integration and verification within a SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) delivery environment. This includes systems analysis to derive function, performance and interface requirements including software and hardware ensuring a coherent system design and successful delivery outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the maturity of the Mission System for a developmental system, ensuring progression toward an integrated, verified and delivery‑ready solution.
  • Perform Model‑Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and digital engineering practices to enable iterative, incremental design and informed decision‑making.
  • Participate in the planning, coordination, and delivery of the Systems Engineering team, including design reviews, providing task estimates, establishing achievable plans, managing risk, and accurate status reporting.
  • Initiate and monitor actions to investigate and resolve complex problems.
  • Drive delivery effectiveness by implementing clear plans and strategies and ensuring adherence to program cadence and priorities (in accordance with SAFe practices).
  • Provide leadership and accountability through completion of assigned tasks and providing support and mentoring to engineering and technical team members
  • Maintain strong stakeholder alignment through clear communication, responsive engagement, and timely handling of emerging requests.
  • Foster a collaborative environment that promotes best practice sharing, sound judgement, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide clear, accurate, and evidence‑based technical guidance, demonstrating completeness of reasoning and independent delivery of high‑quality engineering artefacts with minimal rework.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of working experience in the systems engineering lifecycle
  • Experience using Model‑Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools (e.g. Cameo Systems Modeler)
  • Demonstrated experience delivering engineering outcomes within an Agile environment, working with cross‑functional teams to align system design, software, and hardware delivery to program cadence and milestones.
  • Experience in developing software-based systems is desirable
  • Applies advanced technical principles, theories, and concepts.
  • Contributes to the development of new principles and concepts.
  • Ability to achieve day-to-day operational objectives with significant impact on the results of the Program.
  • Demonstrated experience performing work with minimal oversight.
  • Diplomatic approach to problem solving
  • Strong communication skills, with ability to establish strong working relationships and build customer rapport to influence stakeholders for the best program outcomes.
  • Ability to work onsite at CJI, Mawson Lakes within a Classified development environment.
