Senior Systems Administrator – CICS on Mainframe

The Role

As a System Administrator at Kyndryl, you’ll solve complex problems and identify potential future issues across the spectrum of platforms and services. You’ll be at the forefront of new technology and modernization, working with some of our biggest clients – which means some of the biggest in the world.

Operational Support & Administration

  • Monitor and support day‑to‑day mainframe storage operations across z/OS environments.

  • Install, configure, maintain, and support z/OS storage software products (DFSMS, FDR, DFDSS, etc.).

  • Manage catalog structures, storage definitions, and hardware configuration definitions (HCD).

  • Provide on-call support and collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve incidents, service requests, and change activities.

Engineering & Technical Delivery

  • Implement and support mainframe disaster recovery solutions, including GDPS, XRC, PPRC, and replication-based technologies.

  • Troubleshoot performance issues using z/OS tooling (SMF, RMF, GTF) and storage monitoring tools.

  • Administer enterprise-class storage platforms (IBM, HDS) and virtual tape systems (IBM TS7700, Oracle VSM7).

  • Perform data migrations using tools such as TDMF.

Quality, Documentation & Continuous Improvement

  • Develop and maintain operational procedures, installation guides, and platform standards.

  • Recommend improvements to enhance storage security, performance, and reliability.

  • Contribute to training, knowledge sharing, and cross-skilling within the team.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 10+ years experience working with z/OS technologies as a Systems Administrator or Systems Programmer.

  • 10+ years experience with CICS and CTG in enterprise z/OS environments.

  • 10+ years experience with:

    • CICS configuration, installation, maintenance, and performance tuning

    • WebSphere (WAS) and MQ Series in z/OS environments

    • TSO/E, ISPF, SDSF, JCL, and IBM mainframe utilities

    • Debugging and monitoring tools such as IPCS, RMF, SMF, and ITCAM

  • Extensive experience performing CICS version upgrades, fix pack deployments, and lifecycle maintenance.

  • Strong experience supporting and administering MQ subsystems.

  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex CICS/MQ performance and availability issues.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical teams.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage priorities independently and meet deadlines in large, multi-stakeholder environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with CICSPLEX System Manager.

  • Background in CICS dynamic routing and workload management.

  • Experience customizing CICS and developing IBM Assembler programs.

  • Experience developing and packaging SMP/E USERMODS, PTFs, and Functions.

  • Participation in Disaster Recovery or Business Continuity exercises involving CICS, WAS, and MQ on z/OS.

  • Experience supporting large-scale federal government or enterprise mainframe operations.

  • Experience delivering knowledge transfer and mentoring technical teams.
